Why is Stan struggling w/ KA?

This is the third time they've played this year. KA won the first two.

Well I didn't see the other 2, but this one Stan had several opportunities and choked them all away.

Hasn't KA completely owned the H2H for some reason. I know Stan isn't great but I don't get why there should be a matchup problem...

At this point I think Grigor might have a better chance vs. Nole and given the race I have to root for anyone against Novak. And I never mind rooting against Andy...

Meanwhile, Ferrer finished his job in straights and is in QF. (ALmost), Guaranteed to reach WTF if
Federer can win his next two matches.

If Andy wins this match, he would already qualify and will have no incentive to bring it in
his next match against Novak. Besides, the 6 weeks of playing got to wear him down too.
So, go Grigor. Even if he wins against Andy, he needs to progress further and so will try
hard.

The other big question today regards Federer's recovery time, and his mysterious opponent....

I think I mentioned Lucas Pouille in one of my Young Gun posts as someone to keep on the radar, albeit more in the Vesely/Thiem level rather than the Kyrgios/Coric level. He's reasonably talented, I think, although would be surprised if he upset Roger. I mean, it isn't like Roger has, I don't know, appendicitis or something. :p

You think KA is pretty good? Kind of mediocre to me.

Depends on what you mean by "pretty good" or "mediocre." 2014 will be the fourth year in a row that Anderson has finished the year #37 or better, and the second year in a row that he finishes in the top 20. He's won two ATP 250s and was in the final of an ATP 500. He's never made it to the second week of a Slam, but he's made it to the 4R five times, all within the last two years. I'd call that "pretty good."

To me "mediocre" would be a player that hangs out in the bottom half of the top 100, rarely if ever going past the first or second round of Slams, and never--or almost never--winning titles; think Malek Jaziri, Edouard Roger Vasselin, or Carlos Berlocq. Anderson is better than those guys; he seems to be a proven top 40 player, and so is in a similar category as someone like Andreas Seppi, Juan Monaco, and Philipp Kohlschreiber. Compare him to, say, Julien Benneteau, who has never finished in the top 20 and never won a title (despite making the final of ten...poor Julien), but is a player that better players take seriously. The same is true of Anderson, and perhaps even more so than Benneteau.

Neither Dimitrov nor Murray will beat Djokovic this week.

I am aware of that. But, am expecting Grigor will make him work more at least.

If it's as slow as people are claiming Murray has pretty much no chance vs. Nole. Murray's only success vs. Novak comes on faster courts. Meanwhile you would need a power player like Dimitrov to have a decent chance vs. Nole on this surface. Same deal for Roger, if it's as slow as people are saying he would not beat Nole in the final if they both get there.

Agreed. But, it also helps Roger in the following sense. Roger is most probabaly facing Milos in QF and Berdych. Neither will have a chance against Roger on slow courts (not to mention that
Milos won't have a chance in any court). Berdych's serve and power will be muted on this court.

Kieran, you almost sound offended by Grigor. He is what he is. I know he could be more, but even if he never wins a Slam he's probably going to be a regular in the top 10 for years to come. He could be to Kyrgios/Coric/Zverev what Berdych, Tsonga, and Ferrer are to Novak and Rafa.

I disagree in regards to Berd. Roger struggles more on slower courts vs. him because it is harder to put him on the defensive and eventually Berd starts teeing off. Now obviously Roger has been playing great so I'd slightly favor him if that match takes place but I'd like his chances more on a faster court.

Meh. I went off him. Maybe not permanently, but for the moment. If he winds up like Tsonga or Berdy, then I'll really be offended...

Still too early to cast him off but I actually viewed the semi vs. Nole at Wimbledon as a negative. It was competitive but as soon as there was a chance to really make it a brawl he pretty much couldn't win a point similar to what happened in AO vs. Nadal (which was understandable at the time since it was his first big match). But Wimbledon semi just showed a lack of progression even though he made the semi by beating a really lackluster Murray. And what's happened since Wimbledon has been really bad on what should be good surfaces for him.
