That was some very good-looking tennis for the most part from Rafa, but still didn't close out either set when he was serving for it. :nono

Just probably nerves and confidence, for what I saw he served a little better today

Yes, I think clearly psychological, but I'd really love him to get over that.

I've seen Rafa this year playing very well a match and come out flat the next one, I hope it won't
happen tomorrow

Just woke up and saw the Nadal-Seppi score. 1 and 2?! :eyepop Is Nadal upping his game? This final with F3 could be very interesting. Grabbing this 500 title is the best medicine possible for Nadal. But if he loses to Foggy for the third time this year, it could send him back to square one.

Not from what I saw. It was more about Seppi being complete crap out there, same as Cuevas. Tons of errors.

Saturday's Results

Semifinals
(1) R Nadal (ESP) bt A Seppi (ITA) (4) 6-1, 6-2
(8) F Fognini (ITA) bt L Pouille (FRA) 6-2, 7-6(2)

Nadal leads the H2H 4-2, but Fognini has won both matches this year. Nadal is going for his 67th career title, while Fognini will be trying for his 4th.

You said that before, but Nadal did play much, much better. A lot of winners, and he was more aggressive. The first serve pct. was good, 80%, but he still needs to serve harder at times and with better placement at others. In that sense, I think Seppi helped with that stat. He was cleaner and more confident from the outset, 2-3 FH winners in the first game,) so that wasn't just Seppi letting him build confidence.

He has to play like that tomorrow, and for the rest of the year. As Carol rightly said, we've seen him seem to find his game, only to regress back the next day. And still he has some improving to do to beat the big guns.

I can't believe folks are hanging on the result at a clay tournament with mostly a bunch of tomato cans playing. If Rafa wins, that's huge for his confidence, because he'll win a clay tournament beating his big nemesis Fognini who has beaten him twice this year but ranked far lower? And all this excitement right as the summer HARD COURT season starts in earnest? Some Nadal fans on here (who shall remain nameless) are IMHO behaving like helicopter parents in their approach to Nadal's every move. Stand back, let him regain his footing to the extent that he can, and enjoy his play while it lasts.

Or, we could enjoy it in our own way, which is discussing it here. Think as little of this as you like. Or of Fognini, who everyone agrees is a talented head-case. Rafa's the only superstar playing at the moment, so, hey, why not?
