Good win from Andy today, two more convincing performances against Cuevas and Cilic, hopefully he can carry some more momentum and confidence into tomorrow. I haven't seen Djokovic play this week but it sounds as if he's in good form.

Andy needs to keep racking up the points, Ferrer and Grigor have given up ground in the race to London but Berdych, Kei and Raonic are all still in their tournaments too and all likely to advance to finals this week.

Yeah, I don't expect Ferrer to qualify, probably Dimitrov won't either.

Eventhough Murray v Djokovic matches are painful to watch a lot of the time I'll probably wake up at 5:30am to watch this one.

I think Murray has a shot. He's looking meaner. His first set against Cilic was a masterclass. It could be interesting...

The journalist from L'Equipe @carole_bouchard posted this on twitter.

We guessed but Troicki confirms about Djokovic "He helped me to get a wild card in Beijing"

I know Novak feels that Troicki was harshly treated but I don't think he should be helping him in that way. If a tournament want to give him a wildcard then fair enough but Novak shouldn't be using his position as world #1. Troicki should not want Novak to do it either.

Nadal's serve has been shaky since the AO. Was up a break in the 2nd and 3rd set but he hasn't been able to easily hold most of this year.

I actually think Nadal's great record against lefties is simply due to him being a better player than every other lefty, rather than the fact that he enjoys playing against them. I actually don't think he likes playing lefties at all, especially those with a good forehand. It messes up his usual cross court patterns and he starts using the inside out forehand as a rally shot, which isn't quite as effective. Klizan was so weird in this match in that he was going through a couple of games where he gets in the zone and can't seem to lose a point, only to kinda get back to earth, but momentarily. A very good win for him but he's too erratic to make serious noise in the future.

I'm watching the replay now! So Rafa was up a set and a break, but found a way to lose to this kid; OMG! :nono

The KID is 25y old. He looked really good in those highlights which have ben posted here.

True but he (Troicki) proved how he's still good enough to beat decent players like Youzhny. In any case as soon as he's in the top 100 (and he should be by year end) he'll get main draw entries in the slams. Or is it 104 or above, I think GSM said. Either way, he'll reach that most likely before the AO. The guy needed a bit of a goodwill gesture in any case given how they let Cilic completely off the hook with practically no drop in his ranking and the ability to storm back and win a slam after a pathetically short 4 month ban which sets zero example for the public.

I'm disappointed. I came here hoping you'd tear Novak a new one for defending a potential cheat who avoided a drug test ;)

I haven't defended Troicki or Cilic in any way whatsoever but I don't agree with the double standards of different length bans. They should both be serving 2 year bans. I'm cutting Troicki more slack than Cilic as he's had to come the hard way through challengers.

What about the player that missed out on a wildcard because he's not friends with the world #1? The tournament is in an awkward position because they obviously want to keep Novak happy. They don't want him ditching them next year for Japan. Troicki seems to be moving back up the rankings. He should want do it on his own though.

Rafa was supposed to beat Berdych tomorrow to help Andy's London bid. Blooming Klizan. I left for work this morning just as the Andy match started - didn't catch the highlights. Novak will be a huge challenge. I just hope Andy is up for it.

Yep, pretty much. I'm keeping an eye on all the players fighting for places. I've got tickets for the O2. Andy better be there.

True about the local wildcard I agree. That's not fair. But Troicki is moving up the rankings on his own very well without anyone's help anyway.

Wow it looks like Nole threatened the tournament directors with the gun to give poor Viktor a wild card. Even though I shouldn't be, sometimes I am puzzled at people's lack of basic research and common sense.

Viktor gave an interview for a Serbian newspaper some 2 weeks ago that Nole had been trying to help him get wild cards for some tournaments. They were turned down by many, so they just kept trying. Nole was turned down in Shenzhen, for example, because the only available wild card was given to Murray, so Viktor understood that. He didn't expect anything before he started his Asian trip, so the wild card in Beijing must have been given to him in the last moment, probably because they didn't have anybody "worthier" to give it to.:snigger

They were turned down for wild cards even in challengers, at the beginning of Viktor's comeback, so he had to play the qualies for some challengers. It's not like he didn't have to start from the beginning. Both Viktor and Nole realize that and what starting from scratch means.

I don't think anybody here reads any Serbian so most are probably not aware how all Serbian male tennis players are connected and friends with each other. Nole and Viktor grew up together, they have been friends since Nole was 8 years old. I would guess that Nole knows Viktor pretty well and his comments on the way how ITF and ATP handled Viktor's case are based on solid knowledge of the events. Even though I think that Viktor was extremely naïve, he needed to pay for his foolishness. I can bet that he is not going to even think about asking doctors to postpone his blood test for 2 minutes. Unfortunately sometimes something drastic needs to happen so that people understand the gravity of their situation.

I am actually very proud of Nole for trying to help Viktor. You don't turn your back to your old friend because something he stupidly did. If you don't help in hard times, then what are the friends good for? He took him to South America last year when he had those exhibitions with Rafa. Viktor at that time was pretty depressed and if you are not really strongly willed or don't have proper support a lot of things can go wrong for such a person.

Nole regularly helps young guys Dusan and Filip as well, he takes them on the tour with him and practices with them, gives them advice constantly, advises them on things relevant to the professional tour, recently Nole found a new coach for Filip. I read Serbian news every day so very rarely I miss any news about Nole or other Serbian tennis players. And it was never mentioned by Nole, all this information came from the statements given by these players themselves. I guess Serbian press is interested in them, if nobody else is.

For giving his opinion about how everybody handled Viktor's case, Nole had to endure a 5 hour drug test in the middle of the Davis Cup final (on Saturday), while the doubles match was going on. According to the team doctor Milinkovic, Nole was locked up in a room with a total stranger for 5 hours and had to eat and drink until they were satisfied with the "quality" of his urine on the 4th try of giving it. The doctor's opinion was that it was highly unnecessary and very unprofessional, beyond any codex and ethics of their profession. Nole took it like a man and didn't say a word, never even mentioned it so far. So just in case somebody doubts my claims about this, you are welcome to translate one of the articles at the time via Google: http://www.kurir-info.rs/detalji-mucenja-novaka-dokovic-je-morao-cetiri-puta-da-daje-urin-clanak-1093119

I just realized that this is the thread for Beijing Open, you can never tell here what tread is for what.:snigger

I managed to watch Nole vs Dimitrov last night and I feel that Nole is not in his best form, but he played decently. One thing is for sure, he likes playing here, I think that gives him more motivation to do well in Beijing. It is going to be tough against Andy, I haven't watched him but it seems he beat the best player this summer rather easily so we'll see. Hopefully Nole somehow finds a way to win!!! Come on!

A lot on the line for each guy. Novak desperately wants to retain his year end #1 and Andy wants as many points as possible to qualify for the WTF. I predict an aural spectacle of Animal Farm complete with tons of donkey sounds of EEEEEEEEEE from Andy and AWWWWWWW from Novak. I can't wait :s:s:rolleyes:
