Nah that's not true. According to the blurb, Rafa is washed up and spent, and yet when he wins a couple of third set matches, it's because his opponents buckled. Did Kohl buckle when serving at 4-4 in the third? Maybe he did, in the same way Grigor "buckled" yesterday...

Righteous Mr K, I. watched both matches, Grigor level of play was about the same level as PK's play. Roger only survived because he was able to win about 7 free points due to big serves the final 3 games.

I bet if you went to 2013, similar things would be being said about Federer.

Not really.. Maybe Roger's play was scrutinized but not his opponents play if Roger pulled out a victory

It is what it is, no worries

Maybe it comes from the way they play. Federer is like all can't-be-bothered, I'll-do-this-if-I-must sort of air about him, while Nadal plays all out like his life depended on it. That always has an affect on how we view the opponent I think. It is what it is. All of us prefer one to the other so it's all good.

Have you heard about the Federer's life? he always has been at 100% focus in tennis, tennis and more tennis, he doesn't practice any other sports, he has been and is completely integrated in this sport and taking a very good care about his body. He always has been bothered and very worry about his game and his opponents and you can tell he still is, the way they play doesn't mean anything about it :dodgy:

Whoa whoa, back up. I never said Federer doesn't care or doesn't give 100% or more in his matches. Of course he does. All I'm saying is that Federer's style looks very easy and graceful, compared to Nadal's style. Federer just as cool as ice when he's playing. Nadal looks like he's melting...I mean on fire.

Colors to suit every taste. I think some people are a little bit exaggerated about Roger's style. I always thought that to watch Federer playing was boring, he never impressed to me, maybe his serve which is his best weapon and always has been very effective, good forehand and backhand too but not the best, to me even they are worse players or maybe having less dedication to this sport I consider Gasquet, Feli and others have more elegant style than him

Like you said, you didn't watch it. The reason there was no slagging the opponent's play was because Kohlschreiber played a top quality match. I suggest watching before commenting next time and subsequently only replying to another Nadal fan just because you happen to agree with everything any Nadal fan says when it's standing up for him for no apparent reason. Watch the match and you'll see the reason was Kohlschreiber's serve was excellent all match, as was his shot making. He hit a ton of winners.
not true again Front, the lower ranked slug that Roger played his first match at Basel didn't play top notch tennis so that debunks your basic premise in your reply above. Even if you look at Federer last 20 plus opponents there is not much of how derelict their play was. However, everyone Rafa plays gets subjected to some incredible scrutiny.

Sure, Fed's first opponent did not play top notch tennis. But, there is no discussion of it as Fed clobbered him 1 and 2. If that guy had some chances of winning and then did not take it (like some Lukaz), I am sure there would have been lot of discussion.

My sentiments exactly .I always felt that when someone came along with a game that restricted Federer from playing the style of tennis he was accustomed to or in laments term, push him out of his comfort zone, his tennis wouldn't looks as effortless as it did during the pre Nadal years.

If Rafa gifts Cilic a set today, he's toast. He needs another level again to get through...

Richie edges out Dr. Ivo. in a final set tiebreaker.
Interestingly, Sock never met Young before.

Great to see Sock and Young competing at this stage - and gasquet, who I've liked this year more than any other...

Arggh... I thought - well maybe I hoped - that Young would pull it out after he came back in the 1st set and had BBP's in the 2nd. Oh well.

Sock does it! He really needed to keep his momentum going and take this match! Now his ranking will go up to about No. 24 I think. And he gets to try his hotness on Federer probably. :clap

Rafa is going to serve first. Can anyone tell me if he won or lost the toss? He seems to be serving first a lot, lately...

Come on Nadal. Do not let Cilic beat you. Not here. Not now. Not ever.

He already did, would not be the first time.
