Rafa is really stinking up the joint right now!

Nope. Coric is just handily outplaying him. Nothing Rafa can do.

Are you watching the match? It's less about Coric outplaying him.. at least in the first 3 games. Rafa could barely put the ball in the court

Surely a player who you watch intently (as fans do of their players) will look off their game when they're losing? It's the nature of the beast particularly when you talk about players of Federer and Nadals calibre. You have an expectation of a ridiculously high level of play, anything less and people start trying to rationalise it...

Surely you do understand the difference between losing and stinking up the joint against someone we've never heard of when you're carrying a well documented injury?

Whatever he's taking, I'm pretty sure it's a treatment and not magic.

2 winners to 13 ufes for Coric and 1 winner to 19 ufes for Nadal. ROFL! Awful by both. Coric's first serve % of 39% was sh1te too. Both can only play much better than this.

And yet what does it say when two guys are playing equally shitty but one of them (the far inferior player) wins the set 6-2?

They were both just plain crap. Likewise Serena Williams' knee wasn't why she lost miserably to Halep. She just played awful.

No, absolutely it doesn't. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that Nadal is playing his worst tennis of the season.

At least they're both playing much better in the 2nd set. Wasn't at home earlier and didn't realize Federer v Dimitrov are up next. Some good matches for a small tournament.

Thanks doctor. And as always, comparing two separate injuries that hit two separate players and are totally unrelated.

I wonder, if Nadal's appendix has no impact on his play, why is he going to take time off at all? Why have the surgery? Just play tennis.

Er, he won his last 2 matches handily. And sure they weren't top players but that's not the point. His medication is surely doing well if he's even taking it anymore. Anyone can play a crap match as I pointed out with Serena Williams. She lost 6-0 6-2 against Halep in her worst match of her career and not a single excuse about her left knee because she mangled Bouchard 6-1 6-1 next day. Top players have off days and Nadal is clearly playing better now, they both are. And btw Nadal's worst tennis is always this time of year so it's impossible to tell how much is surface related crapness or his appendicitis. This court is the most similar to the WTF and he's historically been pretty bad there as you know.

If he's playing he's fit enough.. I don't think we need constant reminders about ailments. Lots of pros play with injuries

...and that's literally my least favorite argument, which I articulated earlier. Yes, he's clearly fit enough to play otherwise he wouldn't be playing. The problem with this, it's so black and white, and ignores that being fit enough to play =/= fit enough to win tournaments or perform at a high level. We don't need constant reminders about ailments? I'd only bring it up when you guy disingenuously act like they don't exist and hide behind silly arguments like "oh, he's fit enough to play!" Yeah, I'm sure that means the injury can't affect your level. Because as well all know, an injury is either A) Too severe to let you play or B) Doesn't exist. No middle ground, ever.

Nadal made 19 ufes in that first set. Much better play 2nd set. So you're saying his appendicitis was only affecting him for set 1 so since he's leading set 2 now? See, that's how silly it looks. The main cause of Nadal losing set 1 was he played pure crap, not appendicitis. Also, he always plays a lot worse on indoor courts so frankly it's not that surprising. You need look no further than his topspin FH as it's a sitting duck on this surface.
