Novak will not tank, 200 points and 140k plus the fact he is a proud guy.....c'mon what the deal with the tanking talk??

Well being different than other tournaments in that both Rafa and Novak had already won their groups before their 3rd matches means they've little incentive to go all out and would be best advised to conserve their energy for the tougher matches. So maybe just semi tank. A small one like set 2 yesterday.

I wonder what this evenings match will bring...

If Djoker's smart he'd damn near tank it. He could be tired come Sunday if Stan pushes him at all tomorrow. 200 ranking points is nice but it might hurt his chances at many more ranking points and a big trophy come Sunday.

200 points and double the prize money . also trying to tank this match will be worse for him . Thats because if he tanks he will end up winning 76 or 75 in the third :lolz: . If he plays normally he will wrap up this match in an hour ;)

I know, it's been creeping in here on almost every match. Apparently Rafa tanked last night and still won!

Probably felt since he'd started the 2nd set badly and T-Berd started playing very well he'd save himself for set 3, which he started much better. Semi tank. Roger's US Open semi with Novak featured two tanked sets but he was clearly conserving energy knowing he started the 2nd and 4th (lost those 6-1 and 6-2 respectively) sets badly and wanted to save himself for the 5th.

Yeah it's a possibility too of course  Just don't think Rafa had any intention of going all out to comeback and attempt to win in 2. I mean you could see from his body language he was fed up with the score but also he didn't kill himself trying to win the set either.

Well, he was 0-5 down in jig time. So he held serve so Berdy would have to serve it out and Rafa would open the final set. I just think Berdy played a great second set and Rafa did well to regroup.

Tonight, there's only points and prize money on the line, it should be incentive enough. If not, then swing loose and give the fans an exo...

Well I think we were all kidding regarding Nadal tanking yesterday. But today let's just say if Gasquet somehow wins the 1st set I think Nole would be smart not to make too much effort to win 200 ranking points.

well, that's strategy. In that case, tanking sets happens when you are behind and want to regroup for the final one. But I see the word tank....my interpretation is gifting the match, something few guys would do.

I fear richie will get embarrassed to be honest...when Novak swings freely; I call it his F#$^ it mode......he is unstoppable.

Probably, that's the other part of it. Nole just comes out swinging big against Richie and storms him in 1 hour. That's the probable result but if Richie hangs in then Nole has a dilemma.

The man showed some major HEART today!!

He actually pumped his chest once after he won. That's literally the first time I remember him ever doing that, be it after a match, a point, or whatever.

Anyway, it's good to see passion and determination. Bodes well for next year.

To anyone suggesting Novak needs to tank against Gasquet...the match would likely end quicker if Novak just plays his game. He's a nightmare match-up for Richard.

Anyway, Novak will win in two. The tanking talk is kinda moot IMO.

I think if Novak tanks tonight, Rafa will tank the semi to avoid losing the final to Nole. Then Nole will tank against Stan, because he'll be so scared by Roger's semi performance - unaware of the tank by Rafa! - and we'll have an all-Swiss final.

Which Roger will roll through like a tank...

Good point. I wish he would go into that mode more quickly against Nadal more often.

His inexcusable US Open final loss was case and point. Once he opened it up in the second and third sets he dominated.

Correct yourself! He "dominated" the 3rd set by the score of 4-6... ;)

But the guys keep saying Nole already is the group winner. Who is wrong here?

the guys I think

I don't know bro...The atp site says Novak won the group as well.

:laydownlaughing:laydownlaughing:laydownlaughing

they don't believe in Richie's ability or talent

In case of a 2-way tie, the winner is determined by H2H.
In case of a 3-way tie, the winner is determined by % of sets won.

The winner of this match lost the H2H matchup against Djokovic. Hence Djokovic is the group winner even if he loses in straights to Gasquet.

The question is: What constitutes a tie? Does that only mean the number of matches won/lost? Or matches won/lost, sets won/lost, games won/lost?

I'm getting the feeling everyone is assuming Gasquet will not beat Djokovic in straight sets, and therefore considering the final positions in Group B have been finalized.

Also, Roger has a winning record over Djokovic, so how could he lose the H2H matchup?

The general H2H record has nothing to do with anything. In this case, "H2H match-up" refers to their meetings in this tournament. Djokovic beat both Roger and Del Potro, and thus, has won the "H2H match-up."
