I am not sure Andy can beat Raonic. If he does, I pick him over Djoke who has been off his game but managing to win with lots of luck.

I guess it is either Stan or Kei in the semi? Kei vs Djoke won't be compelling so I am hoping Stan gets through. What does Kei have to do against Cilic to advance?

Obviously stan is out, mate. There's nothing nishikori needs to do.

Andy has beaten him in their previous seven matches - why do you think he can't beat him tomorrow?

There seems to be a bit of an assumed misconception here that Stan is a better player than Andy and that the game is on his racket - or at least his ceiling is higher. All of which I can gather is based on 1 match at the USO about 2/3 years ago and probably also Stan's record against Novak in major finals / quarter finals.

In all but a couple of the main aspects Andy is either significantly better or close enough to Stan for it to be marginal, and thus Andy, to anyone not carrying bias, is clearly and unequivocally the better tennis player.

Defence, fitness, speed, movement, returns, net play, passing and yes backhand - all go to Andy - For anyone to suggest otherwise would be based on the highlights reel and not the long game view point by point.

Serve and big point mentality is about even, with only really the forehand the obvious weapon that outguns Andy - Even then the defence, fitness and anticipation can neutralise this weapon and on occasion turn it into a 'net' UFE.

The inconvenient truth is that Stan played his normal level and Andy played his normal level and if Andy plays his normal level against Stan, he wins 7 or 8 out of 10.

Apart from Djoker! :snicker

But really, Andy is prohibitive favourite in that match. And Novak's beaten Kei in their last 9 matches, so I think there's only one way to read them stats: we'll have a big match on Sunday... :popcorn

Raonic vs super-returners doesn't go well for the big man. He might take a set, but Murray will get the W there.

Djokovic's three wins have been impressive, but Nishikori could give him trouble- he plays a different style than Thiem & Raonic, and has been playing much better than what Goffin showed yesterday.

I think we're going to get the final everyone wants- Murray vs Djokovic for the YE#1. That match would be a coin flip. If Djokovic can summon his best level of play, he wins and takes his throne back. If he can't, Murray takes him down, and seals the new world order until (probably) the start of the AO.

Djoke vs Raonic was 7-0 yet Djoke came very close to losing that match. If not for a bad call in the TB, he actually lost the first set. Raonic's serves make the outcome uncertain in best of three set matches.
Djoke has the far easier path to the final than Andy, but that has been the case the last few months.

I would not be surprised if Kei gets injured and Djoke gets a free pass. Has that ever happened in the semi? Does an injury result in a substitution or a walkover?

I don't agree. Djoke's three wins were not impressive. He will need to get himself together over the break if he wants to stay in the top three next year.

I'll keep saying it; Nole hasn't been impressive since Qatar! He has been limping along since he won the FO and it's a wonder he's been able to hold onto his top ranking for this long but for the huge lead from last season! He's played just well enough to stay ahead of the ATP also-rans that I will continue to call "gutless!" Roger was on his last legs, Rafa's even losing matches to his compatriots with leads, while Nole's been mediocre at best! It took a perfect storm for Murray to get where he is and Nole still has a chance to reclaim and hold onto the #1 ranking during the long dead period between now and the Australian Open! He's had every break so far with pigeons in his group, not to mention the cakewalk to the final of the USO with WD's, opposition injuries, and walkovers! He allowed Stan to take him! He has another chance to show he's "the best" and deserves to have that moniker! :nono :dodgy: :cover

This is a bit hyperbolic, imo. Novak has seemingly "struggled" after Roland Garros this year. During that span of time he is still 20-5, or an 80% win rate. In 2016, only Novak and Andy had win% better than 80%. I suppose if Roger and Rafa return to form, Novak--at his current level--might struggle to surpass them, but not only is it a stretch to assume Fedal rises back up close to full form, but it seems highly unlikely that Novak doesn't improve at least a bit from his form over the last five months. I just don't see the Raonics and Nishikoris of the world being better than Novak next year.

If Djoke continues to play at this level, I can see him dropping to number four next year. He is mentally and physically not where he needs to be. Wawrinka, Murray could surpass him. One more could rise up. I did say if he plays this way. I do expect him to improve over his current form.

Let's hope Kei loses very quickly so he conserves his energy and does not get injured. I predict he will get beat by Djoke either way, but we could see a better match if Kei is fresh.

What?
Millos has defeated Murray 3 times before

EDIT: H2H is Murray - Raonic 8-3

It's actually nice to see someone rooting for Raonic here. I like when you do that. :)

I'd love to see a new winner come along; been rooting for Kei, Grigor, and Milos for quite a while and see great promise in the newest generation with Zverev, Pouille and Thiem! :dodgy: :clap

Cilic wins in 2-1 and that assures him a new career high ranking #6, passing Monfils.

Yes - and he's lost the last seven times they've played. That wouldn't suggest to me that he's got much chance tomorrow. He has a chance - but 10isfan said they "don't think Andy can beat Raonic", but I think the chap who's won the previous seven times between them has to have a chance, no? ;)
