I'll never forget some guy pulling out against Andy Murray in Dubai in 2009 on match point. I kid you not. Look it up.

EDIT: Holy carp. Upon research, it was Stakhovsky. Yes, THAT Stakhovsky.

Match point! That is insane:wow:

lol Tanko Quitsarevic tips his hat to stakhovsky for pulling up the drawbridge at match point down.:snigger:puzzled

Are you serious? Match point? Unless he was bleeding profusely or unable to stand because he just broke his leg, I hope he got fined.

Crazy. Had to look it up there and says he retired 2 points from defeat. Here's a point by point recap of the match and bizarrely they both had ankle issues.

Thanks for the correction. We've all been very harsh on Stakhovsky. He didn't retire on match-point. He retired two points away from defeat. No shame in that! :laydownlaughing

^ Haha, yeah it's still shockingly bad sportsmanship.

Thanks, Front.

This is my favorite part:

"Somebody in the crowd has screamed like Janet Leigh in Psycho every time there's been a drop shot - and there have been quite a few."

Thiem beat a seeded player Granollers today. He is now into R16.

Thanks for mentioning this, GSM. :)

It's also worth noting that Thiem came back from a set down, to win in three: 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

I like it when a young gun doesn't fold after losing the first set, especially against a seeded player.

Yeah, that's what lead to the posts about Stakhovsky retiring two points from losing.

Ah doh. Should've read the whole thread I guess :D Shocking lack of sportsmanship though.

I've always thought that Granollers looks like an El Greco saint.

Today the arrows came from Thiem.

Worth mentioning also that Cervantes (ranked 841) upset Tursunov!:
5-7, 6-0, 6-3.

There is something interesting with Cervantes, he was ranked as high as 130 in 2010, he must have been absent or something that he fell so low.

Montanes upsets Dolgopolov 7-6, 6-3.
Dolgo is just not as great on clay as on hard, that is clear.

Ferrer looks like he isn't going to make it to the next round.. too bad he played some decent tennis last week in MC

Really interested to see how Rafa begins the match today.. I hope that he is able to open his shoulders and regain his confidence hasn't brought into the new year to date
