zero tennis fans thought that the actual winner of the tourney would be who it turned out to be.

So it's a *surprise*. Who said the tour was stale? ...changes are afoot this year.

I used the term "gutless," but I'm truly surprised at the state of affairs! This year has been rockin' as far as I'm concerned! We have a new winner at a major in Wawrinka (AO), Nole has continued his own dominance and resurgence attempting to get back to #1 by winning 2 more Masters back to back, Federer's representing, actually beating Nole to eventually take Dubai, and Nadal is under so much pressure to defend points, he's falling early in clay events; unheard of! :puzzled :nono  :laydownlaughing

I am sure more will come. I read on another forum, they call it: "the attack of the pigeons".

I hope Gulbis wins! It'd be nice and emotional for Almagro if he won there though being a Spaniard.

Almagro will lose his SF.

✓

My prediction: Nishikori wins Barcelona.

✓

Yesterday, after I looked at the Kei-Ernie match result, your prediction came to my mind, without waiting for the second SF outcome, "tented could be right. Kei seems unstoppable this week".

PS. I hope Roger gets him again in his bracket in Madrid;)

I hope so as well :emperor:

First time to post here. Great to see Nishikori win Barcelona. Now if he can just stop getting injured, he could just win a Grand Slam on down the line some day. Japan (where I live) will go nuts if that ever happened. The French Open should be very very interesting.

Welcome, Kirijax!

Whatever about winning a slam, Kei is making all the right shapes so far that this might become a career season for him. He's definitely no pushover...

Welcome Kirijax.
Kei is doing very well this year. Moving into the right direction. Winning a 500 event on clay could be a new beginning for him. Way to go!

I appreciate your enthusiasm for Kei, and I too like him a lot. Not sure if he has the power and weapons to go all the way at a Slam though, that will be dependent on a lot of factors. But Davydenko won the YEC once, maybe Kei can reach similar heights. Semis at a GS is definitely possible.

I agree that a lot of things would have to go right for him to win a Slam but it sure would be fun to see him win one.

He's only about a 100 points away, according to the live rankings:

And welcome, Kirijax. (Is that a Star Trek reference?)

Thanks tented. Kiri is from Kirishima where I live now in Japan and jax is for Jacksonville, Florida, my home town. Being a Star Trek fan, I'm ashamed to ask what the connection is to Star Trek.

I thought it was a character's name, but apparently it's not.
