Nah, Nishikori's serve is notoriously poor. Today wasn't any different there. He always hits a good few double faults and nets a ton of first serves. Needs to really work on it. Rarely ever manages to capitalize on break points either or hold when he breaks.

It is like in the NBA in which players are shooting free throws. In practice, they are shooting it well but in games, they are still missing it.

Actually the past few weeks when Rafa has been pressed meaning down in his service games, he have dialed up a few beefy serves at a higher pace and some well placed body serves.

He does hit it flatter and with a bit more pace nowadays, but it's still not consistent or powerful enough to be a weapon. But I like this serve in the sense that although it's maybe not bedded in yet, it gets him cheap points. And of course, he was always clever as a box of foxes in how he used the serve...
