These are the matches that caught my eye today,

Maria Sakkari has won 2 of her 3 meetings with Petra Kvitova,1 on clay and 1 on HC last year, this could be a potential upset.Greek fans have come out in force to cheer on Maria in all her matches, outside Athens,Melbourne has the highest Greek population.

Ash Barty has a hard match against Riske who has defeated her on grass courts last year, though I feel on a HC Barty's spin could be a telling factor could neutralize Riske flat shots?,also it is Australia Day here and Ash Barty was chosen to be The Young Australian Of The Year....fans will be out in force to cheer her on.Oi Oi Oi.................

I feel Wang will continue her strong play and defeat Ons Jabeur, who has played some great tennis at the AO

Can Coco continue her great run? I think Kenin might have something to say about that?

Garbine has flown so far under the radar, I almost forget she's even in the tournament. I didn't see the Svitolina match, but that's an impressive scoreline. Kiki Bertens will present another stern test.

ii

I only saw the first set of tennis cause I was on night shift,it was the best set of tennis I have seen from Garbine in a long time, apparently from what I read she kept this play up also in the 2nd set.Garbine picked up a viral illness in the Hobart tournament and had to withdraw,so she has not had much match play coming into the AO.When she played like she did against Elina she can defeat anyone on tour, though can she keep this level up? that will be the question.?

Good overview. I'm hoping for Sakkari, Barty, Wang and Coco.

I’m thinking exactly the opposite. Wang will have a proverbial letdown and Ons has too much variety for her

Sakkari was serving for 1st set 5-4 and Petra broke back, 5 games all, very dull match so far, Petra's shots at times have been poor.

Great defense and court coverage from Sakkari she has 2 BPs
Sakkari breaks and once again she will have a chance to serve for the 1st set

Petra with 2BPs and she breaks,Sakkari has no challenges left?

6 games all t/break to commence Petra to serve first

Sakkari should have won the 1st set she had 2 attempts,a player like Petra, you do not get that many chances to win a 1st set.
Sakkari gets back her challenges in the t/brreak,she will have to chose carefully in the 2nd set when to challenge

Sakkari wins the 1st set 76(4).......Petra's serve let her down at a crucial time in the t/breaker with a DF
Sakkari needs to keep returning down the middle,so Petra can't get an angle on it.

Petra wanted to know if the heat rule will apply to the umpire? Petra it is not that hot today in Melbourne.

Max temp today is 27c and cloudy

Margaret Court and her husband in the stands watching the match

Both ladies lost their opening services games in the 2nd set.
Lets see if Sakkari can hold her serve this time
