So I'm no sage. And I was just speculating. But I totally called Swiatek! And I told y'all not to bet on Pliskova. I knew Pavlychenkova could do it. Pliskova will probably get it done one day. But the minute I saw several Tennis dot com "experts" pick her to win it, I knew she was jinxed.
You've got ol Kerber looking better and fighting her way through. Former champ here. She could take advantage of this draw and do it again.
But honestly it's looking a lot like Halep could be winning her second slam from the last 3. A lot of tennis to be played and Barty could do it or someone else could surprise us. But if Halep does win this one. Then she finally starts to look like she's the player to beat on tour as she moves into her late 20s prime.
We'll know more after the Svitolina/Muguruza match and the Bertens/Diyas match. In a slam, I struggle to trust Bertens after all the anxiety she's had. But if she's playing well, then she's playing well and that's that. She's so good when she's on. And she can totally change the draw. But she could just as easily lose it to Diyas tonight. Until Svitolina proves otherwise, she still seems to have a ceiling. Which is still strange. Because she can be so good. But I'll just have to be surprised by her when she does it. Because until she shows she can break through her ceiling, I'm not trusting her. But Muguruza is a proven slam champ. If she's got her A game back. Svitolina may not have much say in the matter.
