Counter puncher with limited upside. Many folks here compared him with Gilles Simon. At the end of his road, he might not even accomplish as much as Simon have.

Not a very good comparison IMO... Simon absorbs pace and most of the times gives back a slower ball than he got. His pace and direction variations are key to his game. Coric is/was mostly a counterpuncher, but he was not only changing a bit of the approach, and the main point is that he is the kind of player that will return the shots with the same pace that they came. In full counter puncher mode his main weapon is just being solid and playing hard. Really does not feel like similar players watching them IMO.

Coric has tatoo like nothing worse than being ordinary it says, something like that, and yet he is exactly that, very ordinary player with a game that doesn't look exciting at all. Still hope he can improve, but it looks like he still doesn't know what kind of tennis he should play.

Hopeless case.

2 break lead. This is over. Good win by Novak, Struff is not a walk in the park opponent.
I saw the whole match. Struff BIG server and big FH , never gave up.
Novak was in total control in the 1st, than small dip and Struff played maximum risk. Second and fourth in ultra speed with a very good level of Novak.
He was serving lights out, long time I see him serving like this. Insane speed of second serve for him. BH good and more aggressive FH. Shortening points.
I liked what I saw very much. He can go all the way.
Idemo!

I noticed in ATP cup that his 2nd serve speed is ramped up a lot. I also like what I saw, agressive play and it looks good and most important the internal fire is there! He is quite confident at the moment.

He was serving pretty fucking good at the ATP cup final against Nadal. Could not see the match today... was he serving even better?

Yes he was. 4th set after he got angry, over 80% first serve, second serve constantly between 170-180 km/h ! Quite good. Groundstrokes pretty aggressive and looking for shortening points. I’m very happy about his level for a first round match!

Me, too. He's a frustrating guy. Remember @JesuslookslikeBorg championing him from early on. I'm not even clear what he's especially doing wrong. But it does go to show how you can't totally predict future fortune from early promise.
did not see, but losing in straights even to a tough 1st rd oppo like the q man is feeble.

talking of feeble shapo seemed to lost the plot. claiming slamming his wand down on the ground loadsatimes was not a code violation.

What has happened to Karen Khachanov?! He lost the first set against Vilella Martinez 6-4.
