Huge hold there by Novak. Be a miracle now if Simon holds.

Two of my favorites playing, Nole and Gilles. Unless Djoker has an off day, this could be a quick three.

I did not know that Simon is a favorite for some fans. :cover

He is not my favorite, but I like him better than many of the players, thus I am rooting for him when he is not playing my favorites.
What I do not get why many fans dislike him ??

Well, he's pushing so much he's making Murray look like the most aggressive guy on tour lol. But it's driving Novak absolutely nuts!

Simon is like this guy that you know...that makes you uncomfortable just by his presence. he does not even have to do or say anything.

Haha, I totally agree. Can't stand the guy, but don't have a great explanation.

After such a sweet backhand DTL it was a shame the next shot was utter poop.

:snicker I have always liked the guy. Understood how his intensity and demeanor can be unsettling for some, but it's part of what I appreciate about him

I wonder what kind of a player Simon would have been if he had 1 offensive bone in his body out of the 206.

:lolz::laydownlaughing

To be fair I've seen a few matches where he was ultra aggressive. Was it Rome 2014? He was absolutely destroying Nadal in set 2 and won the 2nd set TB I believe. Expended so much energy though he was toast in set 3.

You don't watch him much. His down the line backhand when he flattens it out is killer. Forehand down the line isn't bad either. He's just enjoying driving Nole crazy.

Those days he was aggressive, he was probably sick and did not know what he was doing;)

What a long first set. If you weren't watching and just saw 6-3 to Novak you'd be missing a lot. That was a very hard fought first set. Wonder how the rest will pan out.

I know I know, I am exaggerating but seriously, the guy has every shot in the book from the baseline...Why not initiate things more often?

No, it's interesting to hear the commenters rightly say that Simon has a great strategy, but the scoreline is typical.

Simon is like a spider, weaving his web... love it.

Watching this match, maybe some more will begin to appreciate Gilles. :snicker.

They should.;)

Simon put everything he had into that set. Ran a lot of miles and hit a lot of balls. Will be interesting to see if he can keep the same intensity. Will also be interesting to see if Nole can tone down the prolific number of ufe's he had in the first set. :cover
