The heatwave officially keeps off in Melbourne from tomorrow. Some manky hot days all week with temperatures hitting 41-43c through Friday. I'm going to Iceland on Thursday for 4 days so I hope Fed survives the first week or I'll miss all his matches besides the ones before then. Gonna be terribly hot conditions out there rest of the week. Tough especially for the men playing best of 5. I dunno how they do it.

I've noticed Ferrer has actually stopped grunting last game. First time I haven't heard him grunting.

Shame that last game had to end. Gonzalez hit some cracking shots. Should've let that bounce before he hit it on the last point. It had Djokovic written all over it.

Watching the heat, and seeing the doctors on court…I know we always try to monkey with the calendar, but the AO is played in the equivalent of playing the USO mid-July to beginning of August, which guarantees you a heatwave. Plus, Australia has a huge hole in its ozone layer. Any chance they ever move the AO into late in the antipodean summer?

Doubt it. Remember back in the day it was played at the end of the year, then it got moved to Jan.

Which argues that it could move again. At least end of the year it was beginning of their summer. It just seems crazy to play a tournament this important a) so early in the season, and b) in the devil's armpit of the Aussie summer. IMO.

Haas in a battle for the first set with GG Lopez. Haas was up a break, I think, and had set points on the last Lopez service game. In danger of getting frustrated and dropping the first set. Update: now GG Lopez serves for the opening set.

I'd love to stay up and watch more of Haas and Garcia-Lopez but it's almost 6:30am here. Kinda ridiculous to have your breakfast and go to bed. Happy tennis viewing everyone. I'm calling it a day. It'll be bright here soon lol.

You've coined another word forTennis Miller's thread.

Haas shouldn't have lost that set. Let's see if he can recover. Lots of grit from Lopez.

Tommy always does that sadly. GG Lopez is playing well and I'd like to watch more but my sleep pattern is screwed now.

Janowicz in trouble against the very young Aussie.
