hum  I really think the singles champions should start the tourney at all the majors like at Wimbledon..

the opening match on rod laver isn't all that exciting (Angelique Curveball v Miss Xyz). :s

BELINDA BEncic v kimono date-crumbs..the age gap between those 2 must be a world record..belinda is about 16/17 I think and kimono is 43yrs old.

jerzy janowicz, djokovic are on day one plus heather Watson and laura robson are in action for uk fans, both have injury clouds with Watson suffering post mono fatigue/hangover.. and laura withdrew last week midmatch with wrist injury.

Wow the day one schedule is really lacking in star power. Only Djokovic and Serena.

That's because the draw is loaded on the other side. I think this actually might hurt the first week. I wish it was more balanced, only for entertainment's sake.

Wimbledon does not have a night session, which is usually reserved for marquee matches. As such they can afford to open with the defending champion. Australia generally wants to put the big names in the night session when possible.

yes, I thought of that after I posted but I left it..still, the first match on rod laver is a bit unexciting.

They should have played Azarenka's half with Djokovic's. At least that way its a little less imbalanced.

Robredo's got a tough opening match against Rosol. Could be curtains pretty soon.

Higher-ranked veteran v. hard-hitting journeyman. It could go either way, but neither is going deep, so it won't matter, that much. Still, Tommy seems determined to go out in style with the time he has left, so I'd back him.

Well Robredo leads the h2h 2-0 but I wouldn't put to much into that as Rosol is a far improved player since they last played. Could be a good one to watch anyway.

Gilbert already decided that Roger is not winning any more slams. I think he should just retire, no?

Gilbert's a complete tool. He may be right about Roger but he's still a tool. How many said the same about Sampras back in the day and ended up with a big wad of egg on their faces.

Anyone watching Wawrinka v Golubev? Could be interesting. Golubev is crazy aggressive. A bit too aggressive really, but hits some great winners.

That's a shame. Hate seeing players go through because their opponent is injured. Did he fall during the match?

Yep, Wawrinka moves on as Golubev cannot go on. Front, I did not see how he hurt himself, but what I saw was him on the floor getting taped pretty heavily . Shame.

Well, Wawrinka was likely gonna win either way but I hate seeing players win that way. Poor Golubev. That sucks for him. Hopefully he'll recover soon.

Roger Federer
"One of my all-time heroes, Rod Laver, has just published his autobiography. Among many other tennis records that Rod set, he remains the only player ever to have won the Grand Slam twice, a truly phenomenal achievement. I regard him as the greatest champion our sport has known, and his book should be read by anyone who loves tennis. The hardback edition of Rod Laver - A Memoir is only available at the moment in Australia and New Zealand, but it's available globally as an ebook."

Britbox, will you send me a copy brother??;)

I am really looking forward to reading this book. It is the history of tennis right there.

Youzhny easily trough, Karlovic-Dodig in a serious fight.
