What's he going to do? Tell his own people to shut up when cheering for a homeboy? Either way I can't see tonight going well for him. If he were smart (which doesn't appear to be the case), he'd stay away or go over to MCA and camp out.
He's got "people" for crowd control. He'll slink around in the back corridors and let the poor sods who make low wage sort it out as best they can, then just bluster about it later. As you say, they can't do anything about the crowd backing the Aussie. Novak is experienced, and should be expecting less than the favoritism of the crowd. This might be one he would wish he'd played in the day, though

Sorry to disappoint, it would be just as rowdy in the day time..with an Aussie playing.

Yep, probably right. But I think they would be less enebriated in the day. Big difference between clean rowdiness and all out lubricated foolishness.

Yep still it is hot in Melbourne today and Aussies love a drink, regardless of what time day/night it is:)

Yes, that was my point. Chances of a boisterous crowd increase at night.

Funny they've never played. De Minaur is tricky, but not powerful. If he can work the crowd and surprise Novak with his play, he might get the first set. That's his only path to victory, if you ask me.

Well the way Novak carried onto the umpire when The Where Is Wally Group' he has to shut the crowd out for starters?
He said " they are drunk and are trying to get into my head' LOL!...a player has to be able to shut any crowd out
BTW if was a wonder he was able to 'find the Where Is Wally Group' in the first place :)

Hopefully my youngster Ben Shelton wont 'implode' like my picks in the women's draw have today
Hair Dude vs The Brat on Rod Laver Arena
Both matches of course are at the same time lol!

He's got to be expecting hostility. He may complain, but if he really lets it bother him, that's on him.

Isn't it Ben Shelton who's never even traveled outside of the US?

I hate to say it, but I'm rather pulling for The Brat over Hair Dude. Don't hold it against me.

Hair dude has a tough match and I'm actually expecting Rune to win. If your boy serves big, he should be able to beat his compatriot JJ

Yes this is Ben's first trip outside the USA
I will hold it against you,if he wins, he might be talented, the way he carries on, is not acceptable to me and a turn off

At least there's hope he can stop being a brat. I think he's the best hope to down Djokovic in this half. If he does that, I'll give him some slack. Djokovic is a brat, and there's no hope at 35.

Lets see if he can change his image, I will forgive him:) I am sick and tired of people saying he is young etc, sorry that does not wear with me, saying homophobic words towards your opponent is not acceptable in my eyes for starters

Wolf is tough, but smaller. (6' to 6'4".) Shelton has the leftie advantage, and the fearlessness of youth.

I love Ben's fhand and also the fact he is a lefty, his serve is just effortless, Ben gets his 1st BP
JJ hasnt a bad fhand either, just hit a inside fhand, and saved BP

I don't really know, except watching some good results from both lately. Both played college tennis. Shelton has the bigger serve, but maybe Wolf with more power on his shots. Both come off as "gentlemanly" types. I don't know of any poor behavior.

Brad Gilbert points out that Wolf tends to stand in more and can win the battle of court position. Shelton tends to hang back.
Yep I just noticed Ben seems to hang back, he did not do that in his match against Popyrin though
