Nadal is not going to recover his form even at RG as his body is too far gone. Maybe Novak can surprise us with the Grand Slam?
He will do everything he possibly can to be healthy and peak for RG and if he does that, even on one leg he is a favorite to win. Last year Novak was looking like he will beat Rafa in RG and we know how it ended. Novak just surrendered, wasn't up for it mentally/physically. If someone else takes care of Rafa in RG then I would like Novak's chances more.

Djokovic certainly bottled it last year (and in 2020). 2021 was a different story. Nadal will certainly be the favorite to win the French. And his team over the years have done excellent work to get him physically ready.

Congrats to Novak and his fans--there is not really anybody who can stand up to him in a big match anymore with the exception of Nadal, and then in my view mostly on clay. Me thinks he has a few more in him, whereas I get the feeling Rafa is winding down now that he has a family and appears quite happy off of the court. I wonder if USA will let him in by September in light of how the coronavirus appears to be ebbing in terms of severity.

I didn’t see any of the tennis - as many of you know, I hardly ever watch tennis but that won’t stop me sharing my opinions :lulz1: - but Novak is a great champion and we’re blessed that 2 of the big 3 are still rising to the occasion. We’ll miss them all when they’re gone…

This unfortunately might be true. Rafa has had a great run but since he pulled out of Wimbledon with the ab tear, he’s been a lame duck. Too early to think about Paris though - for any of them…

His serve and forehand are not quite Federer level, got a great volley with better reach than Fed except he missed a few when it counted. Alcaraz is also a bit better than him, like Stefanos said he has never seen someone who hit so big consistently. Medvedev would have been the best player to give Nole a match, if he didn't run into red hot Korda. He has the right style, being a brickwall himself.

Best match for Novax, was when he demolished De Minaur.....that was a statement match, middle finger to the 'system' that screwed him up last year.
Was amazed to hear their very own Aussie Alex got a forged vaccination cert. Fair play to him as that's an even bigger middle finger to the system. Got away with it too.

I just woke up to the bad news... I guess it was inevitable with Nadal and Alcaraz injured, and Rune and FAA being upset early.

Anyways I will be humble and offer a big congratulations to the Olympics bronze medalist who has a 7-11 slam h2h record against Nadal, and also to his fans. :good::bye:

None of these blokes are sticking a middle finger to any system. They’re trying to cheat their way in, for their own personal gain, and nobody else’s….

More about protecting his health same as Novak but, since they mandated it, I'd say it's both that and a middle finger to the system.

It’s not a middle finger to the system, when you turn up having committed a crime and pretend you didn’t. You’re not standing on a principle there, since you behaved without principles - you’re just simply hoping to game the system for selfish gain. These are two different things you’re talking about…

I just finished watching the highlights of the men's final, as I went to have a nap before the final and woke up when it finished lol!
What can I say the AO has become Novak's Fortress!
Back to the drawing board for The Young Greek, when I watched his SF match against KK, going on that performance, I knew he did not have the weapons to defeat Novak, it was proven in the final.

Why was a live chat switched off during the men's final? Something feels off here. :)

I think majority of tennis fans felt like Stefanos doesn't have it to hurt Novak here. Then it is sport and you should never underestimate anyone, so we knew he had some chance if he executed all parts of his game really well I guess, but he didn't and that is the scoreline at the end. Yeah, greek needs to work more.

just for kicks and giggles..

Rune had no chance given he lost to a guy Djokovic DESTROYED 1 round later. Rune had beaten Djokovic in '22, so had Rublev. Doesn't mean anything when you are opposite side of in form Nole at AO. Ask Nadal how that feels ('19 AO final)

FAA didn't even have the game to get past Lechecka 'who?' FAA has never been threat to Novak in any slam

yup, the 7-11 slam record due to being 2-8 vs Nadal in Rafa's home court and Nadal never having the game to meet Nole this often late in Novak's two home courts - AO, Wimbledon. You forgot the overall h2h - 30-29 advantage you know who

Oh yeah, Alcaraz was out and Nadal injured, lucky Novak. This reminds me where was Novak when Rafa won AO '22 and where was Novak when Alcaraz won USO '22? The universe has restored order, we now have balance in the force. What goes around, comes around.

Nole = GOAT

@MikeOne , @Nadalfan2013 is a Rafa fanboy troll, and will never be convinced, no matter how logical and airtight an argument is. The best I can say about them is that their trolling has become a bit more humorous - whereas a year or two ago it was just obnoxious blabbing, now there's a bit of satire in there, as if they're actually making fun of themself and the caricature of blind fanboyism that they present. But I don't think that's actually their intention, and more that they just like to troll.

As for "Nole = GOAT," I think the argument for him not being the first among the Big Three is getting harder and harder to make. In truth, I don't think there's an argument. Regardless of how one would rate Rafa vs. Roger, Novak has the edge over both - and this will become even more clear over the next year or two as he approaches and perhaps reaches 25 Slams, surpasses 400 weeks at #1, 40-45+ Masters, 100+ titles, etc.

But I do think Rod Laver deserves consideration, or at least a nod, that his level in the 60s and early 70s--relative to the competition--was possibly even higher than Novak's. Certainly, Jeff Sackmann of Tennis Abstract says so, and claims to have the Elo data to support that. At the least, though, I think we can say with some degree of certainty that Novak is the clear Open Era GOAT. Rafa will likely always have the sole claim to "Surface GOAT" (and Clay GOAT), and Roger gets marks for his dominance over his own generation ("Generation GOAT?"), but in terms of overall and historic dominance - at least during the Open Era - Novak gets the title.

A few years from now, when most tennis fans have moved on from Big Three obsession, I can imagine a few hold-out diehard fanboys of Rafa and Roger, still squabbling over who was greater, while diehard Novak fanboys will just chuckle amusedly. And the rest of us--those who love tennis first and foremost--will be focused on the new field, with interesting rivalries like Rune vs. Alcaraz, and who the next challenger will be...

The point being, while I'm glad to have witnessed the Age of the Big Three, I'm also glad to see it end - and I really hope the "Great Debate" doesn't continue on too long...especially now that it is clear that one player has edged forward above the other two.

Has anyone checked on Moxie? She seems to be MIA with an uncharacteristic case of laryngitis :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I watched most of the final with my eyes closed, from my bed. Then, Kieran gave me the Heimlich maneuver after the final, so I'm just recovering. Thanks for your concern. Also, nice to see you posting, having recovered from your own 3-month bout of laryngitis.

I rarely seen such a case of hypothermia crossed with a bulging fever, the ability to throw fully grown sofas through windows while screaming in tongues. I’m surprised you’re able to type in that strait jacket they stuck you in!
