IWe all know that Thiem is a top 8 player due to his outstanding results on clay. Unfortunately for him, his technique is not suitable on such a court. He does not know how to adapt to this surface.

Mon Dieu; give him time! You can say that about a lot of players depending on the surface that isn't preferred like grass, clay, or indoor carpet! :nono:   :ptennis:

Fed's ROS is so horrible. He is not even putting the ball back in play and keep in mind that he is not playing a Servebot either. It is 3-3 now on serve in the first set.

Fed should realize that efficiency may be important in WTF matches.

NOw, on serve at 5-4. Kei to serve in a do or die moment.

Kei holds to 5-5.

60% of Kei's serves are unreturned. Go figure that.

Nishikori is poor too. He is letting Federer get away with bad shots.

Federer's inside-out backhand is good today.

Kei wins first set 7-4 on TB.

At one point unreturned serves of Kei were at 80%. At the end of the set it has now come down to 50%.

I take a break and come back for the third set, if it exists.

I don't think there will be a third set, with the way Federer is playing.

Bad loss considering he pretty much owns that matchup.

Things change! People still brag about Federer owning Djokovic many years ago before he got old! That little description is supposed to mitigate all the losses in Majors over the last several years like the record books care! :yesyes:  :ptennis:

The record books and anyone actually watching tennis knows the reason he is currently playing like shit. He's ancient. He's 6 years older than Djokovic btw and, as people keep pointing out, the fact that the h2h is still so close doesn't say a whole lot for Djokovic funnily enough. Last time they played it went to a 3rd set TB. Luckily for Djokovic though Federer bent over and played crap in the TB. The world number 1 in his prime needs to go to the very limit often to beat a geriatric. The record books care about that too. :popcorn

He was bad today, especially his return of serve. If he does not improve, he may not win a single set in this tournament.

After sucking in Basel, Fed reached SF and gave Nole a tough fight. I did not see much of him in action during those tourneys (I was busy at work and watched only the low lights). Anyway, I was hoping he has found his form back after seeing Nole across the net.

Now this is really bad news for Fed. due to couple of reasons.

1. He did not even win a set. As a result if it comes down to three people tied at two wins or three people tied at one win, Fed
would be at a disadvantage in moving ahead.

2. On paper, this is supposed to be easiest RR match at WTF for Fed. This is because on the opening days of WTF, they
feed red meat to top dogs. However, even though Kei is ranked below both Thiem and Kandy, Kei had very good results
on tour since the end of USO. I think QF or better in all tourneys he played in after USO. In that sense Kei is kind of in
form player though than say Thiem..

Assuming Fed can beat both Thiem and Kandy quickly, my wish of Fed meeting Novak in SF could happen.

I did not bother to watch the second set. But, in the first set, Kei played just ordinary / poor tennis only. Definitely, Kei did not go out and beat Fed. It was basically because Fed sucked that he lost the opening set. Atrocious ROS by Fed.
