Well, it's for all the marbles tomorrow. Did someone say that #1 and #2 have never played the YEC's final for the #1 spot before? Djokovic looked crisp today, and Murray's bound to be tired. I'd like to see Andy win it, but I don't believe he beats an A-level Novak. I guess we'll see if Nole is all the way back, or if Andy has found a new level.

All up for grabs! I'm thinking the same... I think Novak will prevail. He looks up for it.

So does his wife, which is rather different than when she didn't even stay for the whole of the US Open final.

This reminds me of the 2008 Wimbledon final, which was also a very "chips-on-the-table" moment. Can the #1-yet-underdog pull it off?

Results from the ATP World Tour Finals Men's Singles Semifinal matches on Saturday

2-Novak Djokovic (Serbia) beat 5-Kei Nishikori (Japan) 6-1 6-1
1-Andy Murray (Britain) beat 4-Milos Raonic (Canada) 5-7 7-6(5) 7-6(9)

supposing only that tomorrow ANDY is rested sufficiently -- and after all this IS what they do for a living -- to be in top physical shape to withstand such rigors -

i think it will to a larg extent boil down to who has a more dependable SERVE throughout the mtch.

since both are great returners -- THAT SERVE will be critical for the server.

in that sense -- NOLE is clearly the better over-all player becuse his serve is MORE of a weapon on BOTH first and second serves on a consistent level than murray's.

i WANT nole to win because it is historic for him to surpass any predecessor as ATP world champion -- and to add to his own unique career as one of the all-time greats...having something additional NO ONE ELSE has.

and of course just because he's NOLE, HEHE.

but i'll be very happy just the same for ANDY IF he wins it - it's justthe proper thing to do.

Looking the WTF draw my question is if Novak is playing his A-level or if the others ( his opponents) have played their C-level

^ A-Level comes out when you play a player who can challenge you strongly (and excite the player) enough to bring it out IMO.... so I don't think Novak's A-Level has come out yet.

I think the semi final was the closest he has been to his A-level since the French Open final. My impression was that he was hitting his ground strokes with noticeably more pace than recently so he seems to have found some confidence in his game by now.

If Novak keeps up that level for today's match I would be surprised if Andy physically has enough left to win, but Novak somewhat earned this advantage by handling Nishikori and Raonic much more efficiently than Andy did.

I don't think Nole is in his full A game mode, but it might be enough, it remains to be seen. I like to be cautious about these things, but he does seem to be in good spirits and is willing to fight it out, something that had been missing for 4-5 months. He was mentally and physically exhausted at this event last year and he won it anyway so I wouldn't count on Andy just being tired and not having chances. Nole was hitting his serves and groundstrokes with a little bit more force and speed than in previous months. It is kind of neat that this is the first time in history of the event that two top players are fighting for #1 end year ranking. I know Nole will be against the crowd in full force against him, but hopefully he can handle that in a positive way.

that is seriously one of the very best explanations i EVER read on how to define ''A-LEVEL" .

often A level IS talked about but seldom described ''what" or 'how?"

thanks

I don't know what happened to Novak between yesterday and today. His timing and footwork are off. Andy, on the other hand, looks calm and not suffering the effects of yesterday's match, or nerves.

I'm really pleased for Andy...he's waited a long time. He said this to Brad Gilbert after the match: I was really tired after the match yesterday, so I was really trying to conserve energy....not waste energy by yelling at my box, and it worked. Maybe I'll try to do a bit more of that next year. (Smiles.) :good::lulz2:

I didn't see that result coming... I thought Novak was locked in, particularly after the semis and Murray's battle with Milos. Will have to watch the match later to catch up.
