I saw this yesterday and meant to check: Nalbandian did it twice. Cali would be sad if we didn't remember that. He was the first to do it, and he did it two tournaments in a row...Madrid and Paris in 2007.The commentators mentioned that if Goffin wins today, he will be the sixth player to win against both Rafa and Roger in the same tournament.
The other five are given below with the number of times they did so in parentheses.
1. Novak (4)
2. Davydenko (2)
3. Delpotro (1)
4. Murray (1)
5. Nalbandian (1).
Hope the list does not get extended.
Give me a break with this garbage. Did you think Goffin had much of a chance yesterday? He was 0-6 and the last few, including 2 weeks ago, were blowouts. Despite the shocking loss I'd say Roger still was pretty dominant this season or are you just going to go off this event and ignore the rest?
You got it, unlike Darth and AP. That is iecatly what I meant, it is unrealistical to expect a player at this age, 36, to play match in and out at that high level anymore, no matter how good they are. Therefore, the cynical dismissal of the other players chances against them, upfront is inappropriate. You are partially right, but let me explain. The wakeup call only means that Roger will not be able to play 19 tournaments and win most of it any more. Age after all takes a toll. But, when he is healthy going in for a tournament, he would definitely be a favorite (at least in all non-clay events) whether or not he wins.
This year even though Fedal had very good year, both had trouble in getting to the finish line and finishing the year in high point.
This does not mean that their tennis had gone bad. This only means that their bodies have taken so much abuse over the years and s
therefore, it is unrealistic to expect them to be in top shape throughout the year.

Herios...you have been saying that for the past 5 years.. isn’t this true Darth
No one could predicted that upset ..but herios had her voodoo oils and dolls in full force ..Roger was ambushedAt least 5 years.. he's predicted them to be garbage for a long time and now he's bragging after a big upset even though Roger went 52-5 this year and won 7 of 12 tournaments he entered.
As for yesterday it was a monster upset, they can happen time to time. But I didn't see you here before the match giving Goffin a decent chance to win yesterday.
Where did I say Roger did not have a great year?At least 5 years.. he's predicted them to be garbage for a long time and now he's bragging after a big upset even though Roger went 52-5 this year and won 7 of 12 tournaments he entered.

Agreed. Very entertaining match, and both played with a lot of heart. Interesting pairing of styles.Well done Grigor.
Yeah not the expected final etc but these guys left it all out there and there were some incredible points. I had fun. Even though these guys have been around for a while, it was interesting to see them in a totally new situation for both of them and how they coped with it. They get an A from me.

I think Dimitrov will win, but I'd secretly really like it if Goffin would.

Other than Goffin, how many did not go on to win the tournament?
Don't quite agree with the bolded above. I mean, the "definitely" is a bit strong, as Sasha won 2 MS 1000s, and he's only 20, so Grigor's YEC is better, but not a lot, and he took a long time to get to these results. Not a big deal, but I wouldn't overstate it.Congrats to Grigor! In the end he won a ATP 1000 and WTF this year, two big titles. Those results are definitely better than that of Sasha and Thiem. I am optimistic that Grigor may be devouring the leftovers in the next few years.
To be honest, I must say that I did not bother to watch this match. So, can't comment anything about the actual play. Will catch some highlights later.
