What is this Simonne-Matthieu court? Is it a new court or an old court just renamed?

It is named to honor whom/ Who are these people? I hope not Gilles Simon and Paul Henry Mathieu.

I also got interested after yesterday and looked it up a bit. It is part of the RG venue renewal sort of, because it felt outdated.

The main issue for tournament was how to add new courts without disrupting the nearby neighbourhood. Those people who live there in that community are very sensitive to noise and can't handle little uh and oh from the players and cheering from the crowd, so the tournament directors decided to put the new courts deep in the hole to reduce the noise. I know that was the case with court 18, not sure how much in the hole is this brand new court.

In the below article it is mentioned they even tought of moving the tournament to another location. This Simonne-Mathieu (first thing that come to my mind are also Simon and Mathieu ) is a woman and she won RG two times in 1930s.

Last year they also introduced court 18 which I mentioned and it has capacity of 2200. It's a nice little court, I watched some matches there played last year. It can be very loud, atmosphere like in a Davis Cup if the crowd gets involved.

Also Chatrier will finally have a roof next year. All these changes look to be a sucess and welcomed by the players and tennis fans.

edit:
now I see there is no matches scheduled on court 18 this year

This match deserved a better court, it was De Minaur against Klahn just next to them. French always favoring their players. Now Gasquet/M.Zverev on that 5000 seater court.

Glad for Busta to beat Sousa, he's been really struggling since AO.

And why would not they? Gasquet is a much more accomplished player than either Krajinovic or Tiafoe.

Tense match between Medvedev and Herbert. French missed a smash at 4:4 in 5th and BP. Now serving to stay in the match.

I cannot believe Rafa lost 6 games in the first round. What a hack ! His days are numbered. King of clay my ass...

...said no one ever. How did he look though?

Rafa served first, so naturally they played a long first game (about 10 minutes), saving multiple break points, before finally holding. Then Rafa won the match.
