You would know better than I. Nothing against any but agenda wise it would be better to have the slam late November
Personally I think that's too late. That's when they hold the YEC. But if they pushed it too late for NY, Larry Ellison would love to host the Major at IW. However, let me point out: if you put the whole NAm. HC swing in the autumn, finishing in the YEC, that the argument for the YEC to be an outdoor HC event becomes very strong. ;)

Really looking forward to watching this - probably my favorite matchup to watch, because I can just enjoy the pure tennis of it and know I'll see amazing feats of athleticism and skill, without having to stress about "my guy" winning.

I voted Novak in 4. I think it will be close and wouldn't be surprised if Rafa wins it, but think Novak has the edge. Novak's A game beats Rafa's A game. Rafa wins this if Novak parties like its 2017, but I don't think that's likely.
By A game, I have to assume you mean on this surface. Novak has to be given the edge, as clearly the bookies are, by a bit. But Rafa has said he came to win, and he has to have expected that there was a solid chance he'd have to win by beating Novak in just this final. I have to believe he is as prepared and as motivated as he can be. Novak same, for sure. He's likely worked out his wobbles, and also seems to be ready to peak for the final. I have to hope that Rafa can start fast, and get Novak a bit on his heels and frustrated. If Novak gets Nadal resorting to old patterns, that ain't gonna work. Trust the game plan!

.

The two best defenders. The two best athletes. The two mentally strongest. The two physically fittest. The two quickest movers. The best forehand vs. the best backhand. The best returner vs. the best return game player. The gymnast vs. the wrestler. The two longest pre-serve routines. The two players of the decade.

Djoker isn’t 2011 level so that would be a good start for Nadal but it was weird that he was notches above Rafa on all surfaces so suddenly, coming off a great 2010 from Rafa.

I just hope it won’t be another 2012 slugfest of war of attrition. Some see it as classic but apart from two players pushing themselves to their physical limits it was not great tennis.....as evidenced by the fact that there were too many 20 plus shot rallies, which clearly indicate that they were poor shot-making to allow it to happen. Watch in form Fed or Wawrinka (or even formerly Nalbandian, Safin etc) against anyone, they’d punch through with lots of winners...few rallies were very long but it’s a good mix; who needs to see the woos and ahhs of long point after long point and essentially fans need to sit for six hours to watch similar pattern of rallies.

The level was really high in the 2012 final, just that both players make each other look less exciting due to the matchup. Their movement is incredible and they steal many winners from each other. Look at how aggressive Nadal looks vs players that cannot handle his spin or take away his angles with movement, Rafa looked amazing in SF. Don't expect this to happen when Djokovic starts running down balls and getting them back deep.

To me, the most exciting matches are Djoker vs Fed when they are playing at a high level, Fed plays first strike tennis and forces Nole to be very aggressive, Nole gets very offensive vs Federer. Murray vs Djoker is for me, the most boring matchup, seldom have i seen them play exciting tennis against each other, it's the movement.

It's funny, when Sampras was playing, people complained about the servathons and winners, they wanted more baseline tennis. Now, when they get the long brutal rallies, they want winners. I think we need to appreciate how these two guys look like gods against others but when they face each other, it's such a high level, that neither looks great (some some exceptions of course). Yes, Rafa looked great vs Stan in FO final but that wasn't a challenge, winner and winner, without any competitiveness to it. Now Rafa and Nole have played extremely exciting tennis, especially on clay. The 2013 FO semis was one of the most exciting and high quality matches i have ever seen, they were both hitting impressive winners all match. It's rare though, i will appreciate the match, even when neither lets the other look great.

The one thing that is 100% sure is that if Novak starts losing he will break rackets and scream at ball kids and his team box, but if Nadal starts losing he will be professional as always and respectful to our sport. Frankly I can't understand how anyone could prefer the arrogance of Novak. :help:

I have not bothered to chime in with my predictions yet.

I am going with Ralph and in four.

I expect Ralph to win the first, third and fourth sets. The first two sets will be closely fought, something like 7-6 or 7-5. The last set will be almost a blow out (by that, I mean a double break win).

I have never seen Rafa play this aggressively. Apart from playing baseline tennis aggressively, Rafa is coming to the net lot more frequently and with a lot of success. I think that kind of aggressive tennis will be suitable in the current AO courts which are sped up since 2017. While Novak has been the boss at AO courts, that was when it was not playing this fast.

Of course, I would prefer Novak to win. But, this is my prediction based on what I saw of both players.

p.s. I saw lot more of Ralph than Novak at this AO. More importantly, I saw Ralph's SF, but not Novak's SF. But, I saw the highlights and know that it is a bigger blow out than the other SF.

p.s.2. When was the last time I picked Ralph to win a GS final? :-(

I won't be watching this match live (unless they happen to be still playing when I get up at around 8 a.m. tomorrow).

If not, I will get into a bubble (disconnect myself from computer, news and other people) and watch the encore presentation of the match in ESPN2 at 10 a.m. without knowing the results.

Hi AF. I opened this a bit early... they probably won't start for another 20 mins. I'm just going to grab something eat before it begins.
