As a general rule, mother's aren't the most unbiased bunch when it comes to their sons.

For sure, but she's a tennis insider, not just some mum out there. My guess is that the team decided she could put it out there. Either way, the question is: will the hip surgery work, or does Andy actually retire at Wimbledon? Unknown, at this point.

I know, or daughter's for that matter but as a patriotic Brit, I'm being a bit optimistic.

I said this last year: It is very hard for an athlete to recover fully from hip surgery, especially someone so physical like Andy. I mean, maybe Dr Ivo...

Why? Hip is even more vital to serves.

I know. I remember you saying so. I also mentioned that I was being optimistic. I guess you could say I was indulging in wishful thinking.

Actually, instead of quitting completely, Andy should start playing in doubles may be with Jamie as his partner and win multiple slams.

why would Andy risk his well being for doubles? I hardly think he would risk anything for doubles. More likely he'll become an excellent commentator. I for one would love to hear his insights into Fedalovic

Painful insights, about how he got his ass kicked by all of them.....should be interesting.

I think he did commentary for the BBC during Wimbledon last year. Did you hear any of it?

not much to be honest. A lot of the time I keep the tv on mute as they all just annoy me

I don't know. I think Andy would not make a good commentator. I think he is not quite articulate.

Of course, it is not worth playing in doubles if it is going to affect his well being. On the other hand, if his condition improves (but not sufficient to play singles), it may work out, if the docs can guarantee that it won't affect his quality of life after retiring for good.

In a way I think he would make a good commentator but in another way I don't. I think he'd be a good 1 because he knows what he's talking about but on the other hand I don't because he's got a strong Scots accent & not everyone understands a Scots accent. I understand a Scots accent easily as a Northerner whose great Grandma & Brother-in-law were Scots as well as most of my ancestors being Scots/Irish but I've noticed when watching Neil Oliver's programmes which I love there are often subtitles so obviously not everyone understands Scots accents & I'm not talking about the Scots Gaelic language here which is very hard. I love Neil Oliver putting on his broad accent.

he doesn't have a strong Scottish accent. That's a red herring
