This defeat of Andy's today did not surprise me at all. Yes, he was undefeated on grass in the last two years, but what counts more is how he plays right now. His form was subpar all season long, thus he is not even in the top 8 on the ATP points ranking for 2014.
Many thought once he will step on grass, he will be fine. Now we can see, he is not.
I would be very surprised to see him win Wimbledon as well.

I'm still optimistic on murray for a good showing at Wimbledon. I think he said in an interview he was looking forward to a week away from the meeja hullaballoo over mauresmo and getting in some grasscourt practise.

What happened to Dimitrov? Injured? I was really hoping to catch some of that match.

The ATP sites lists him as having defeated Dolgopolov, but without a score, so Dimitrov got a walkover.

Looks like nothing, he got a gift:cool:
You may ask what happened to Dolgopolov, because he has retired, not Grigor.

Ahh, OK. I think the tennis.com site had it first as Grigor retiring but it is fixed now. I could have also just miss-saw the score.

Stepanek is on a major roll!

At 35, Stepanek can't seem to be kept down. He's pretty amazing.

I know our friend Haychew will be disappointed with this result, but I'm happy for Stepanek. I've always thought he's an interesting player. Just ask Andy! ;) OK, bad joke, Iona.

(And, no, I don't mean interesting in terms of anything referencing a worm.)

To be honest I don't really mind Stepanek. He's a character. Absolutely no doubt about that.

I like Stepanek's game, and I sure admire his ability to still be a threat. I do believe he's retired the worm celebration, though, which is a relief.

I've been watching the replay of Lopez v. Berdych. Great serving from Lopez and some brave grass play. A really excellent performance. He gets Stepanek tomorrow. That could be entertaining.

Andy lost in the 2nd round at Queen's in 2012. It didn't stop him reaching the Wimbledon final or winning gold and silver (doubles) at the Olympics. The early loss at Queen's on its own isn't a concern. The year as a whole is the concern. In saying that he reached the quarters in Australia and the semis in Paris. I'm not sure he will defend Wimbledon but he'll give his all.

Both Mahut and Stepanek he lost to here have similar styles (S&V), Do you think perhaps he has some difficulties when he faces such a style of player?
