Darthfed 3 of the top 4 players in the world are injured clearly the ATP is doing something wrong. Having a longer off season, more events on clay could help the top players stay fit.

No, the ATP are NOT doing something wrong. Nadal, Murray and Djokovic run around far too much because their games aren't aggressive enough to win points quickly. It's their own fault they're injured. All 3 play very long matches against nobodies much of the time at slams when Federer is off the court in under 90 minutes. It's their own choice to play the way they do and, once again, their own fault they're now paying the price. Playing the way he does and preserving his body is yet another reason to praise Federer's greatness.

In the clay season, Nadal can only lose points.

I think it's good times for Roger.

Can we remain no. 1 till Wimbledon? I think he has a great chance to be the YE 1.

. Yes The way Nadal ,Djokovic murray play lead to injury's. put its also the face that the off season is so Short, and where is to many events on hard courts, ATP could make more clay, grass court events to make it easy for the top players.

^ i think this (old) discussion might belong in a thread of it's own, no?

if the ATP has too short an off season, how come so many players use it for $id€ €v€nt$? also, the ATP rules have a lot of exceptions in place for older players, allowing them to skip mandatory tournaments, taking into account that they might need more rest than the younger, fresher ones. so everybody can fix their own schedule, it's just that some choose a different path.

If you don't care, then don't complain. Also, I don't think the ATP/ITF cares about your endlessly downgrading tournaments.

HUH? I wasn't complaining about there not being a Dubai thread. I was LAUGHING at it. If I'd wanted a Dubai thread I would have created it. As far as the ATP/ITF caring about me "downgrading" tournaments. I highly doubt they even know I exist - or care. I'm pretty sure Chris Kermode isn't up nights worrying about my snarky opinions. Hell...I'm not up nights worrying about my opinions either...

"My goal and hope was to play in this tournament," said the 31-year-old. "Unfortunately, in my last training session yesterday, I felt a sharp pain in my leg again."

Those players are all 30+ years old. Just remember that.

One of the reasons players historically start slipping in their late 20s, and often drop off a cliff around 30-32, is because of injury. A 32 year old's hand-eye coordination and physical fitness can be just as good as a 25 year old's. But they do tend to become more injury prone, especially when--as someone mentioned--they play an attritional style of tennis (or any tennis, really).

Of course. Just saying it's not the ATP's fault he's injured. Sick of hearing that from people everywhere.

I would actually argue that speeding courts up and thus reducing the need for attritional tennis would go a long way to helping the issue. But the fact is most of these guys we're missing are 30+

Would love to see it 'cos even at 36 going on 37, the current version of Roger would clean up and put himself completely out of reach in the slam count.

Has Rafa officially withdrawn from IW yet? I guess not. The top players need to play in the weekend of the first week and so Rafa will get two weeks time to get back in action. Don't lose hope.

p.s. I would rather see Rafa lose than miss events due to injury.

Thiem gets Shapo 2 and 3 in straights. I'm sorry, but I'm still seeing Shapovalov in the "ball-basher" category. He's got a monster serve, but he has a lot of growing up to do. If he can bring that wild horse of his game to bridle, he will be so dangerous, but for now she bucks him off as much as not.

Moxie, he's 18. He turns 19 in April, which makes him the same age Rafa was in early 2005, the year he broke out as an elite player - and Rafa was super young. Roger turned 19 in 2000, when he was barely on the radar.

Now if Shapo didn't have much game, then I'd be ready to fritz him. But he's got game, he's just unpolished.

I think that's what I said.

Curious as to when Ferrer switched from a Prince racquet to a Wilson racquet.

This one's living up to the hype, I'd say.
