H2H: First Meet

Suprisingly these two will meet for only the first time.

Predictions?

I'm going with Thiem.

Thiem caught my eye last year, and not because of the bad hair dye. This year he's hitting his stride. Here, he's been striking the ball cleanly and hitting his spots.

Tomic stepped up last year and hopefully continues on his trajectory through 2016. Dolg was hot all week, yet Bernie hung in there. Thiem should win this one. I, however, will be cheering on the Aussie.

Tomic breaks Thiem in the third game. He's doing what I had expected Dimitrov to do. Thiem doesn't have the greatest serve and Bernie is insinuating himself. He's playing solid aggressive tennis and Thiem is not responding well, yet.

Yes, that was a great final. Tomic is off to a fast start.

It could be reading too much in, but I don't know if anyone of the "lost generation" has felt the pressure of the undercard group so much as Tomic, as so many of the youngsters are Aussies. He must feel so much pressure to not be the "aging prodigy/by-passed promising future of Australian tennis." In a good way, it seems. The guys below him seem to have kicked him in the butt.

Thiem has shaken off the nerves. Big momentum shift...and now Thiem goes off a bit.

DT has great focus and gravitas for a young guy. I'd be surprised if he blows it from here.

And it looks as though Tomic is going passive. This could be a very quick set.
