Uh, oh. Bad Nick showed up, and now he's getting work on his elbow. He definitely bailed on that set when he wasn't going to win it.

Far from thrilling. Not the kind of match-up I enjoy watching. I don't know if we can still call Querrey underestimated, after the Djokovic upset at Wimbledon, but he played well, and he's steady. Nick might well have done better not to have given up on the 2nd. In the 3rd he seemed to want it, but had given up momentum and got out-played. Still, he seems to be trying to get his head screwed on straight, and it's good to see. Querrey-Nadal will be a much different match.

I watched the last set, really not a fan of Querrey's style of play still he is as you said 'steady'.Good signs from Nick overall in this tournament,I have followed Nick as a junior,a concern for me is he does tend to get injured, even as a junior, also Thanasi.

Speaking of Thanassi...what's up with him these days? He was out such a long time and I thought he was back in the mix.

He has a 'ab' problem at the moment, being off the tour after he had to have surgery on his shoulder, came back played doubles and then got injured before the AO.

That's crushing. He's got so much potential, but can't seem to get started.

H2H 4-0 in favor of Nadal v. Querrey. But this is a much more confident Sam. However, Rafa is also not the target he was in the last 2 years for guys who had never beaten him. Significant edge to Nadal, I would think, but if Querrey serves really well, takes it to Nadal and gets to TBs, he could snag it.

Yep,both boys played each other at the AO for the junior boys Champion which Nick won, they have also played junior doubles together.Hopefully this year injury wise it will be a better year for Thanassi.

Cant call that yet. Nicky might flame out against Uncle Sam

I wouldn't be very surprised

darn it, you two ladies call this one..what happened..did Nicky meds wear off?

Not necessarily, AP. The 3rd set was competitive and Querrey just took it to him especially towards at the end of the set.

Here's my two cents: Nadal NEEDS to win this match and title especially against Querrey. I know it is only a 500 event and he did not face any of the top guys but winning this title will give him a boost of confidence going forward.

If he can't capitalize this opportunity, then I do not know what can I say...

Like usual, he became Jekyll and Hyde on his service game. Or you could say he did a "La Monf"

I didn't see the Kyrgios/Querrey match but a little disappointed Nick didn't make the finals. I saw a little of Querrey/Thiem and Sam looked to be playing well... Don't have much faith in him beating Rafa though. A Rafa/Kyrgios final would have been more interesting.
