I like Rosol too so Murray's stupid comment of "everyone hates you" was a bit dense. Wish he was more consistent though.

Did tell you that Lukas was looked upon as a :lolz::lolz: clown

He's just one of a couple players who definitely made an impression and made Nadal flinch; Rosol and Soderling! Rafa had to be really embarrassed and regretted allowing these players to affect him on court, then afterwards in interviews! Their main claim to fame is actually beating him at a major and not much else! Robin also took him at WTF, but Rafa lost all 3 of his RR matches that year in '09 IIRC! He couldn't have wanted to be there! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

Not many people have said it is a good achievement either.

Another thing nobody said was that Murray IS an Ashe, Newcombe or Wilander, so I don't see why you feel the need to be going on about it, any excuse to try and put him down, I suppose.

Not that it bothers me. It would just be nice to see him get some credit on this forum from time to time, even though he's not well loved in general, rather than reading through pages of discussion on all the people Murray isn't as good as, how he only won his majors because of Lendl/because Djokovic played crap in those matches/because he's lucky or whatever else. Not holding my breath though.

Hi, TF7:

I'm very happy for Andy. He played some good players to get that title, too. I don't know why Andy gets such a hard time on this forum, but I like him. I hope he has a great rest of the year, including another Slam.

I like to think we're just putting his record in perspective! Compared to "The Big 3," he's fallen off a little; not nearly as competitive as a couple years ago against them! I never made a big deal of Lendl or Nole crapping out in those finals; all a part of a past season! Things happened, he had a window of opportunity and took full advantage taking 2 majors and an Olympic Gold!  :dodgy: He'll never be a fave of mines with defensive way he plays allowing "no names" & "also-rans" to take him to the limit; sorta like Rafa! They both work entirely too hard in early rounds!

Well, some, like yourself may just be putting the record in perspective, but in fairness to TennisFanatic7, we are not, in general, kind to Murray on these boards. (Front in post #106 of this thread: "Murray's a miserable git ffs." As an example.) Yes, Murray gets a rough time because, unlike other players (at least until recently,) he is spoken of in the same breath as Djokovic, Federer and Nadal. That's hard company to keep up with, and he's done better than anyone else. I don't see that NOT being any better than he is deserves the animus directed towards him. You, yourself, complain loudly and bitterly about the also-rans not stepping up, and you've said you don't like Andy's game. But if you put him in the category of also-rans v. the Big 3, he has beaten Federer and Djokovic in big moments. That IS actually stepping up.

Muzza wins his first clay title!

It wasn't easy, but Murray finally defeats Kohlschreiber 7-6(4), 5-7, 7-6(4) to take his 32nd ATP title and first since last October. Way to go Muzza!

Lucky for him they went to best of 3 sets in these clay Masters! :dodgy: In the old days, it was the 5 set marathons that kept some players from winning these in particular; Becker the biggest w/o a clay title!

Andy's win shows that you get a dirty mind set once you are married. ;)

And you still need to sneer? This was not a MS1000, and would never have been best of 5. Murray won, and good on him.

Kudos to Muzz, I give him a lot of credit to win that tournament after to play last Saturday three matches, two singles and one double. Hope he can do something good in Madrid too because "the old guard" is obviously still better than the "young one"

Rosol is a clown and Murray just said very loudly what the tennis community knew all along

To Rosol? There are not too many others out there. but surely he is not the only one who lost to him.

Maybe, but you should know by now, I'm one who does remember just about every loss! Nole's been the most vulnerable at times over the years, but he's turned that around of late! I look at the Masters' record book all the time and it's just fascinating that these 3 players will probably end up being the best of all time! I still remember fudging Sampras' record to proclaim him the GOAT just 10 years ago; even w/o a FO final to his credit! Now he's likely to fall out of the top 5, actually giving Rod Laver more credit now for his career with 2 calendar year GS's!

Roger's the one we'll have to give some accommodation since he's gotten a little long in the tooth, but it is still an event when Rafa loses; esp. on clay! He's a victim of his own record, ego, and over-promotion by all the experts that "something must be wrong if Rafa loses ANY match!" It first began years ago with Uncle Tony letting it out Rafa has a nagging injury of some sort! Now he's not safe on clay and we all know he's in fine fiddle! He can't blame it on age, injury, or time away from the tour! He's been losing, even on clay and I find it hilarious! It's still shocking to him to see how far he's fallen in the last year with his FO being his lone face-saving win! :ras: :dodgy: I guess he should be lucky to still be in the top 10 in some parlance! :lolz:  :dodgy:

^ not as far as Andy R. and Orantes are concerned. Ashe probably yes, but that's actually quite close. it's really just Newk and Wilander who are a world apart from Andy M. if we look at the quality of the titles.

They're not gonna be naming a stadium after Andy Murray anytime soon and that should be all you need to differentiate between Murray and Ashe :p

sorry to dig this up, but i just felt i needed to clarify something i'd already worried about while posting in the first place: Ashe will always stand in a whole other out of course, because of all of his achievements, his career and his life, not just the title mix. fact is, if Andy wins another slam, he has a bag of titles comparable to Ashe's. that does not make his legacy anywhere near as relevant as Ashe's.

I give Murray more credit than Orantes and Roddick with 1 major; more like a Vilas with 2 or 3! Was "up there" and competed well, but for the most part unsuccessful vs Borg and Connors! :nono  :dodgy:

uncle Toni is part of Rafa 's team and an uncle who Rafa never puts a gag order over his mouth. Very similar to the Williams Sisters father Richard, he speaks what he believes and isn't censored. Unlike Roger's camp where the only voice is heard is his.

^ And sometimes it's best not to have your team spouting crap in interviews. Maybe uncle phony should take a leaf out of Roger's book. Nadal's got some slack over dumb comments his uncle made in the past rather than him and it'd serve him better if Toni stayed quiet more.

Sure you can; Rafa's the boss! Commentators made a big deal out of saying Tony gets a salary like any other employee! That should be enough reason to keep his mouth shut regardless if he's told to do so or not! That's why I say it's condoned and accepted; Rafa needs that coddling! :nono :s  :cover

I remember when Hingis' pro career started back in the mid 90's and her subsequent rise to #1! Nothing was more ridiculous than Richard getting into media wars with a 16 year old child; even if in defense he thought was of his daughters! :cover :nono :(
