I watched some of the qualifier Kovacevic this weekend. He's a bit of a late-bloomer, due to having gone to college. Very aggressive game, and a lovely, lethal 1HBH, for those whose heads are turned by that sort of thing. One to watch. He's got a fun game.
I was rooting for FAA when I was just watching the score. Then I turned on the match on TV to find out that Kovacevic has a one handed back hand. As I could not decide who to root for then, I turned the TV off and decided to do the dishes.

I am currently watching match between Meddy v Wawrinka, in Rotterdam, Meddy served for the 1st set 5-3,broken and back on serve now 5 all 1st set, Stan needs to up his 1st serve percentage, also Stan is now going through the middle more and not making
as many errors, fun match, Meddy Shut Up you deserved your time violation, focus on the match at hand.
6 games all TB for the 1st se
Stan should kiss the net cord which won him the point finished it with a lob!
Both players had SP and lost them
6 all
On his 4th SP Wawrinka wins the 1st TB 76 (8) a great set of tennis from Stan and some great bhands as well from Stan

Quite a first set, won by Stan. Thank goodness, after that non-stop insult fest that Medvedev hurled at the umpire on the changeover when he got a time violation. Sometimes he can be funny and rather endearing, but when he's just being pitiful and whiny, he's vile.

That was a good response from Meddy to win the 2nd set 64 and he seems to have the momentum going into the 3rd set
Break of serve like we saw in the 2nd set from Meddy
Meddy now up a double break in the 3rd set, his game of grinding players down comes full force, I personally thought the 39 yo Stan ,needed to win this match in straight sets.
Meddy 67(8) 64 61, Meddy needed that win after his first round exit at the AO,

I know it is early days into the match between Alcaraz - Van de Zandschulp
Alcaraz needs to control the ball
11 UFE in 4 games, struggling with his fhand
Van de Zandschulp you cannot afford 2 DFs while trying to serve out the 1st set back on serve 5 games all
6 games all TB for the 1st set, Alcaraz to serve
Alcaraz played a strong TB 76(3) finding his depth and shape now on his fhand, cutting down on the UFE
Van de Zandsculp played a great 2nd set 63, Alcaraz UFE now 40? I know he is trying to be play more aggressive, he needs 'controlled aggression'
Going 3 sets
Alcaraz d Van de Zandschulp 76(3) 36 61, Alcaraz reset in the 3rd set, still has things in his game he can improve on going forward in the tournament

It was a decent match. Some good points from both players. Alcaraz is long overdue to win a tournament, looks serious and ready to me. He has a tough draw, Botic beat him in USO, tricky R1 opponent. He has possibly FAA next and then maybe Rune.

Don Hi,
I knew Botic would be a tricky opponent, for Carlos, like you, agree his draw is tough, he is yet to win a title on indoor HC
I am watching Rune v Sonego presently

Rune also has a tricky opening opponent. I missed the end of Carlos' match, but glad he won. Did he clean up the errors, or was Botic just out of ideas?

Carlos re set his game in the 3rd set, Botic serve lost him a lot of free points, in the 3rd set,
Carlos trying to be more aggressive thus the higher UFE count, more controlled aggression from Carlos in the 3rd set

I am really enjoying the match between Rune v Sonego both players, playing at a high level 5 games all 1st set
TB for the 1st set, Rune hit a half volley from the baseline for a winner lol!
Rune's coverage of the court has been incredible in the TB
Explosive 1st set of tennis from both players, Rune clinches the 1st set 76(4) a really entertaining match

Little Holger looked good defeating the ever dangerous ( Fonseca killer) Lorenzo Sonego in Rotterdam , 7-6(4), 6-4 with a great FH passing shot on MP. With a decent run here the Dane would be knocking on a return to top 10 ranking.

ETA: starting in 2022 Little Holger has 40+ wins in indoor tournaments, 2nd most in the ATP since then…

I don't think this got discussed, but there was a big kerfuffle at DC this weekend in the Chile v. Belgium tie of Garin v. Bergs. Wondering what people think. Bergs hit Garin in the cheek/eyesocket? with his shoulder while celebrating his late break of serve as he approached the sideline for the change of ends. He got a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct, but was not defaulted for hurting Garin. Everyone agrees it was unintentional, but these things usually are. Only that, usually the ball is struck or the racquet is thrown in anger and frustration, and usually the players are on the court. And Davis Cup does seem to encourage a raucous atmosphere, and going to the team at changeovers. Garin, after being treated and cleared to play, refused to play on and was eventually defaulted for time violations, giving Belgium the win over Chile. The article below includes a video of the incident.

I looked up this rule,
From Sandard Code of Behaviour Violations,
Physical abuse is the unauthorised touching of an official, opponent, spectator or other person
Quite frankly considering the injury to Garin, personally speaking I feel Bergs should have been defaulted, unintentional or not
