The Toray Pan Pacific WTA500 ( the last WTA500 tournament for the year) takes place in Tokyo, Japan from October 21-27.
It is the 39 edition of the tournament.

Defending champion is Veronika Kudermetova, she will be defending her title again this year.

Correct, Naomi was due to play at the Hong Kong Tennis Open withdrew citing a back injury and also informed them she was shutting down her season due to this ongoing back injury
Another player shutting down her season is Paula Badosa, she had to retire in her SF match at WTA500 Ningbo with gastro illness.

Off court coaching will be allowed from 2025
Currently, off court coaching is only allowed in team events
This will be the first time where off-court will be permitted for all individual matches.

I think she'll end up playing one and skip the other. The schedule makes it almost impossible to play both the WTA Finals and the BJK Cup, lol. One of them needs to be moved.

What a tournament it has been for Sofia Kenin who has found form at the end of 2024 , first player through to the final at WTA500 Toray Pan Pacific Open , Kenins first WTA final of 2024, defeating the 9th seed Katie Boutler 64 64

In the 2nd SF at Tokyo No 1 seed Zheng defeated Shnaider (6) 76(5) 63 to make the final where she will play Sofia Kenin

Zheng (1) d Kenin WC to win the WTA500 Toray Pan Pacific Open, Tokyo 76(5) 63, Zheng has 16 aces, was never broken and only faced only 1 single break all match
This is Zheng's 3rd WTA title of 2024. Zheng is also this years Ace leader, with 16 aces in the final, bringing her total to 406

A comfy group for Iga, though she has had trouble with Krejcikova, lets see how she performs with her new coach Wim Fissette.
The end of year finals will determine which player Sabalenka or Swiatek is the No 1 ranked player for 2024.
I think on this indoor HC Sabalenka has the weapons to win, she has been most consistent on HC this year, her serve will be a bonus, as long as she keeps everything else in 'check'
