Epic win for Iga at Doha on the hard court.
Too bad she can't translate that to the Slams.
Crapping the bed against Penko at the 2023 USO and against Noskova at the 2024 AO was a complete disgrace.
Can't happen under any circumstances.
Glad to see her win a match that she was supposed to win.
Sure, this was a great win. And, a clutch comeback.
Now since that is done, time to see what Iga is really made of.
Expecting nothing less than a steamroll to winning both legs of the Sunshine Double.
Iga can win on a slow HC or clay where she has time to get her feet and adjust her shots, it is on a fast HC, grass a quicker surface where she comes unstuck, players go hard, flat and fast into her fhand wing and dont give her the time to adjust her feet, that is where a player like Ostapenko who has a winning record against Iga can take her off the court.

A worrying sign for Haddad Maia, back to back R1 losses in Doha and now Dubai, WTA1000s for her - not ideal
Jasmine Paoline closes it out by winning 10 straight games to upset the No 11 seed Haddad Maia
Krueger d No 16 seed Garcia in 3 sets 36 63 63, I am not surprised with Garcia going out in the 1st round
Q Frech d No 14 seed Alexandrova 76(2) 63

Some withdrawals in Dubai,
Marta Kostyuk ( viral illness) , Lucia Bronzetti moves in the draw as a LL
Ons Jabeur ( right knee) replaced by Cristina Busca. From what I read Ons will go for medical treatments on her right knee, take as much time to get your knee right, you have not been playing well at all so far this year.Ons hopes to be back for the US swing.
Tsurenko ( elbow) replaced by Cocciaretto

Karolina Pliskova has been working with WTA coach Zeljko Krajan in the Middle East, it isnt a full time partnership as yet, Krajan used to work with Dinara Safina ( that girl drove me to drugs and drink when she was playing:)) he did get Safina to No 1 for a short time, interested to see if Pliskova makes this a permanent arrangement.

Still no word on Maria Sakkari's new coach, Maria will play her 1st round match in Dubai tomorrow, maybe we will hear more tomorrow in her press conference, hopefully she wont go out again in her 1st round match

Karolina Muchova via twitter,
Following my injury at the USO and an extensive rehab phase, it turned out that a medical intervention was necessary. The surgery ( wrist) was successful and I'm gonna do all I can to see you on the court again soon.

Good to see Sloane Stephens play at this level against Swiatek, when motivated, she is still amazing
Iga wins 64 64, though she was pushed all the way, made a lot of UFE especially in the 2nd set, appears to have gone back to her former serve, not as fluid as once before, which I feel would give her more power, oh well.
Iga will face Svitolina next match
