Is Plisko avoiding that Iga drubbing? She just gave a walkover when she could have let Naomi go forward yesterday :astonished-face:

Pliskova had a lower back injury the reason for her withdrawal apparently
BTW Pliskova withdrew before facing Iga in Dubai QFs as well, Hmmm.

The only ones avail is David Witt and Patrick. Oh, where is Sascha these days?
People on twitter were saying that Jess Pegula and Maria Sakkari could just swap coaches lol! I am not sure what Sasha is doing I will have to check

David Witt did a good job with Pegula and maybe he needs a break from WTA.He has made a lot of money from coaching Venus to Pegula. Those are top tier$$ players who make good money on and off the court.I think he is going to be nabbed by an American..maybe Brooksby who is coming back on your very soon.

So far I have not heard what Witt is doing, agree maybe he needs a break, Hill who has coached Sakkari for 6 years, I feel also needs a break from coaching

I don't know that you can ask them to take a break from coaching. That is how they feed their families. Maybe it's just time for a new pupil.

Yep point taken, will be interested to see who both Witt and Hill coach next.
I could not find anything about who Sasha is coaching at present, he did coach Pliskova for the 2nd time in 2023 that ended again.

Hill is not a good coach, and maybe he is good traveling companion. He failed to motivate his player and Sakkari lost a lot of matches she should have won.

Well a coach can only do soo much, agree Sakkari should have won more matches, though to me she is a Head case and she needs to work it out on court by herself, I feel she is a needy player most of the time she looked at Tom for advice/help I feel she needs a sports physicologist

A great start from Elena breaking Iga to start the match, Iga needs to make first serves, Elena is just too powerful off the ground and is returning well

MTO for Elena hitting her leg pretty strongly with her racquet through her service motion....bleeding, Elena leads 4-1
Iga talking to her coach, her fhand is all over the place so far in this match, frustrated
Elena broken after her MTO
Iga has to move Elena around more, when Elena plants her feet she just wacks the ball especially if it is in her strike zone
Iga has cut down on her UFE and is more aggressive.and seems to have adjusted to the windy conditions
4 games all, 1st set
Iga broken, and Elena serving for the 1st set 6-5 broken and a TB for the 1st set, this wind is making conditions hard to play in, though as I have always said 'the wind is a great leveller in tennis".

Well that was a 'crazy first set of tennis' Iga wins the 1st set which lasted 90 mins, 76(8)
Set point saved, you can forgive Elena if she dosent want to play a TB any time soon :)
1 set away from a 3 peat in Doha is Iga Swiatek

Iga Swiatek comes back from a double break in the 1st set to defeat Elena Rybakina 76(8) 62 and win the title in Doha for the 3rd consecutive year, also the first player in history to win Doha 3 consecutive times.
7th career WTA1000 title
18th title
Hasnt dropped a set in Doha since 2022 1st round
Iga is now 62-0 after she wins the 1st set in WTA1000 events, crazy
Good couple of weeks for Elena making 2 finals and winning Abu Dhabi last week

Epic win for Iga at Doha on the hard court.
Too bad she can't translate that to the Slams.
Crapping the bed against Penko at the 2023 USO and against Noskova at the 2024 AO was a complete disgrace.
Can't happen under any circumstances.
Glad to see her win a match that she was supposed to win.
Sure, this was a great win. And, a clutch comeback.
Now since that is done, time to see what Iga is really made of.
Expecting nothing less than a steamroll to winning both legs of the Sunshine Double.
