Yeah, I was surprised to see that. It is one of the "super-challengers" - 175 ATP points, so 70% the points of an ATP 250.Murray Monfils today, R1 of a challenger event.
Andy's about to have his assche kicked.Back to back wins for Andy Murray, in the AIX En Provence Challenger, will face Luca van Assche in the QFs
Andy Murray smashed that assche.
I think one of the main reasons Andy is playing a challenger tournaments, is he is wanting to play RG this year and he wants to be seeded.Andy said this would probably be his last chance to play at RG this yearWho knows, maybe Andy has an ATP 250 or two left in him. His last was Antwerp in late 2019, and before that one in 2017, at the tail end of his prime.
I'm reminded of when Juan Carlos Ferrero had a flurry of ATP 250s at the tail end of his career. He won five in 2009-11, after not winning any titles since 2003. Of course he was also about five years younger than Andy when he won his last.
Lleyton Hewitt, too, had a few "last spurts." He was pretty much done as an elite player by 2006 when he slipped out of the top 10 for good, won a few more low level titles through 2010, then none in 2011-13 before winning two in 2014.
