I wasn’t suggesting a long term partnership, but rather someone in her corner to help her really work through matches and what she needs to do during the slams.

Good point you raised suggesting Cahill, it is up to Serena,is she going to retire this year? I dont know at present she keeps everything close to her chest

Why do she needs Cahill to convince her to play more, she could hire a dumbass like myself for less than a tenth of what he would charge.

I don’t think she would use him to play more. More like play smarter.
You cant play smarter if you haven't played in a competitive match in a year. There's no substitution including the greatest team of coaches that ever played the game of tennis for playing matches.

Not to play more, more of a tactic adviser
Margaret read my response to the other poster who shared their thoughts similar to yours. I know my post are not Always in alignment but I am speaking from experience and what the player's mentally may be. Serena's tactics are great but having the competitive juices flowing will not come from a coach. Someone like FAA needs a different type of voice in his head. Serena needs to play.

Serena has a great tennis IQ there is no debate, though sometimes you need another voice? also when your older, pressure times you can doubt yourself, that is all I am saying.

I understand it from both sides. For this last hoorah, it doesn't hurt her to have all things working in her favor. More matches, better fitness and what to do once she plays those matches...

KELI from what I saw today Serena began pushing the ball because she was nervous. That comes from lack of recent play and confidence. When she was confident and playing aggressively she was dominant. When she got tired from lack of conditioning she got nervous and made poor decisions. Coaching CAN'T fixed that. IMO

I agree, coaching can't fix lack of fitness, but even after 3 hours she was still out there and had multiple chances to win the match. So even at 40 she's not that far away, but I'd like to see her close the gap w/ a fully committed effort before she goes and that includes having the right voice in her ear for however long she decides to play.

Except for Harrison, Lil Coco and Amanda, not a good day for US women. Serena out, Scone, McHale and Rogers who was seeded 30. In other play, Mugu drops the opener and then match got suspended. Pliskobot is up a set and 5-5 when it got called for darkness. Camila goes down in flames to Frech

I think where this hurts is had she come to Wimbledon prepared this was a good opportunity for her without a loaded field. She isn’t going to get too many opportunities like this.

Her draw was okay to me, this year to me, it is wide open, for someone to win Wimbledon.

We've been saying this for years. I thought this draw was tougher than some others she's had. Even if she had got by today, potentially she would've had Pliskobot (who like Mugu, get up to beat up a Williams), Coco, Iga, Halep and Ons in the final. That's difficult even w/ Naomi-me-me and the Russians out of bounds.

It's been a yr. since her last competitive match! Who expected any different? Even if she made it past this lit'l girl, her future didn't look bright! Serena's no kid & no Martina Navratilova either! Thinking she could just show up and win this tournament was a joke and a hoax perpetrated on the tour! I just don't understand coming back again even if to redeem her performance and injury last year! :shushing-face: :pleading-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

I had Serena to win 2-1 and cashed out late and just got my stake back and really should have hedged with Tan to win also but, if she won yesterday, I was fully expecting her to lose her next match.
