I'm suspecting they're getting tested by the tournament, and that this isn't random. Cilic was sick, but Berrettini doesn't say anything about that, just that he tested positive. And someone above wrote that it was good on Matteo to do the right thing and withdraw, but I do not believe he had an option. I don't think this was a "home test and a valiant gesture." Don't you think it has to be the tournament controlling these things?
It's not the law here anymore to isolate if you have covid. It was advised to isolate but a lot of people are selfish & won't isolate. I think Berrettini had flu symptoms? Cilic & Berrettini have done the right thing, very selfless to protect others. Not everyone will do that... No idea if Wimbledon has any rules for covid. Testing has stopped a lot since the government took away free test kits months ago. So unlikely players are being tested. But with a few cases now they 100% need to test everyone or this tournament will become a joke & a health risk.

I know they relaxed the rule for players not needing to be vaccinated this year, still I feel they need now to put a plan in practice, before this gets out of hand that is all. Mask wearing to be mandatory again for starters and to introduce COVID testing for all players., either on a daily basis, or every other day
I think they DO have a plan of regular testing in place. That's why these players are testing positive.

Well when I went to the official site yesterday there was no mention of regular testing at all, just that players did not need to be vaccinated against COVID?

I looked, too and didn't find anything. And I'm pretty shocked, but after reading Clarey in the NYT today, it sounds like it actually WAS Berrettini taking matters into his own hands. And he IS sick. Wimbledon is defending its health and safety precautions, but it doesn't seem like they have much in place in the way of Covid protocols.

Social media posted something. But when last years finalist is out due to Covid it's news worthy on the main site. Maybe Wimbledon will release a statement later & put precautions in place. Testing masks etc.

I doubt they are testing players regularly. I think the players who have tested positive are just good sensible caring people.
As I said above, this shocks me, but I think you are right, now I read more about it. In my business, which is film, and freelance, we have to test all the time, and show proof, and depending on where you live and local regulations, show vaccination certificates. Because we, like tennis players, are essentially super-spreaders: traveling a lot and always working with different people. In "normal" times, how often does some kind of a tummy bug or something breakout amongst the players in a tournament? Often enough. What about the tennis lifestyle and infectious disease is Wimbledon not getting?

I think that's right Berrettini is just being a good human. Other players unfortunately will not be so selfless.

I can't understand why Wimbledon is being so stupid especially with a new wave, rising cases & apparently highly contagious omicron variants. But since around April the law around testing positive changed so people no longer have to isolate.

Meanwhile Nick K now has a battle on his hands going to a 5th set against Paul Jubb, fans are now behind Jubb much to the dismay of Nick K :) thank goodness they have Cicak as the umpire on the match, she does not put up with any crap period :)

I know you werent having a go at me, I did misunderstand.I do not understand why the specific seeding at Wimbledon has also gone away,? that is why Ruud being seeded 3rd on a surface he has not done well on? though he has done well on other surfaces to received that ranking at Wimbledon

I've read that a few days ego Berrettini, Cilic and Novak had a dinner together, I can't believe that Novak without being vaccinated could be the virus carrier? it would be too much!
