Rafa has always played like that,I still feel his age has something to do with the fact he can get nervous closing out sets
I agree age is a big part of getting nervous closing out sets. Same as getting tired too! It would definitely help him if he can conserve some energy in the first couple games of the 3rd set if he leads two sets to love of course

I agree, even Rafa said he has his chances to win in the 3rd set,so did we all at that point

I think that's what I have been saying.

Once Rafa recovers, and luckily he has a few days, I like what he's trying to do with his serve, but his timing on the ball is lacking. And I think he's going to have to take a more aggressive position in the court on the 2nd serve. Try to take the ball earlier. Unless he gets Monfils in the SF (unlikely), he's going to get tall guys with big serves from her on in. No surprise. Prepare for that.
I am prepare for that, it is the same as I was prepared him getting tired during the Shapo match if it gets close.

I do agree about your analysis in his return position. I just hope he actually does it because he is stubborn

I really think it was heat, so it was just that he was sinking, and getting more ill. You could see the energy leaking out of him. So, did Special K win?
yeah Kyrigos and Kokkinakis won the doubles , but Kyrigos threw his racquet down a couple times and there was an audible obscenity. He even uttered the magic word after the match during the interview but in a happier context. It's a good thing he has Thanasi as his doubles partner who obviously is more placid and a stabilizing influence to Nick and was able to calm him down and refocus on the match.

If I were Rafa, I would watch the 5th set again. Yes, he was nervous, but he took his chances in the first couple of games and he got the break!

When he got the break, he just focused on serving well and just holding until he wins the match.

That's true, so in that regard, why could Nine not move the Nadal-Shapovolov match to their offshoot channel 9GO or 9GEM when the doubles started?

The match scheduling at the AO has been overall disgusting...apparently after the AO they have a review,so whoever handles the match scheduling in my mind has to go

I tell ya for sure Channel Nine deserves to have their ass kicked on their scheduling decision today. And I'm a Roger fan, hehe...
Seems there is a lot of complaining to go around about coverage. We in the US are livid about the choices ESPN made, at least in the first week. They barely showed us anything. And from what it looks like, we're not going to get any more tennis tonight, on broadcast. Barty and Pegula have taken the court (and Pegula is American!!) but what my ESPN show is women boxing in a UFC match from 2021. At least your Ch. 9 gave you a tennis match.

And this from the Courier mail -

‘Appalling’: Nadal, Special Ks snubbed for 66-year-old movie as broadcaster slammed

Fans have been left baffled with the Australian Open’s TV partner leaving Rafael Nadal out in the cold in a brutal snub.
Tennis fans have been left baffled with Australian Open host broadcaster Channel Nine’s programming decision that left either Rafael Nadal or Nick Kyrgios’ matches without TV coverage for periods of time.
With the quarter-finals in progress Nine chose to show one channel’s worth of live coverage during the day session, rather than two as they did for the tournament’s first eight days.

On Tuesday afternoon, Nine’s multichannel Gem was broadcasting the 1956 movie The Baby and the Battleship from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, with Go showing 20-year-old repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond, placing other tennis matches on their streaming platforms.

But that became a problem when Rafael Nadal’s singles quarter-final with Denis Shapovalov, beginning in the mid-afternoon, was being played at the same time as Nick Kyrgios and Thanasi Kokkinakis’ doubles quarter-final against Germany’s Tim Puetz and New Zealand’s Michael Venus.

It meant tennis fans were unable to watch the Kyrgios-Kokkinakis match on traditional TV for much of the first set, and then unable to watch Nadal’s bid for a 21st Grand Slam when they switched over to the doubles.

International media were also baffled by the call with The Times’ Stuart Fraser tweeting: “Does seem bizarre”.

“Not watching the tennis that closely but from what I can gather Nadal is beating Kyrgios and Kokkinakis yeah?” Brydon Coverdale tweeted.

Nine ended up switching back-and-forth between the two matches as Shapovalov forced a fifth set against Nadal, while Puetz and Venus forced a third set against Kokkinakis and Kyrgios, exacerbating the problem.

Give it a rest El Shapo still thinks Rafa gets 'preferential treatment' in his matches. At least he didn't carry on about officials being corrupt.

Australian Open TV channel has a 18 minute highlight but not sure if it works outside of AU. Be nice to know.

Not much.....go and practice how to construct a point for starters, also cutting down on UFE in critical times in a match.
Margaret, doesn't matter who reaches the final, i reckon the mens final, that the law of averages, will be over in straight sets. Because how many times we've seen in GS tournament full of long epic matches, only to have a short, anti-climatic final? One good example was 1991 U S Open and Edberg's thrashing of Jim Courier.
