The commitment to serving bigger/spot serving and cheap points is important, I think. He's had 10 or so DF's, but he hasn't back off trying for the wins on the serve. This is different for him, and worth it, IMO.

He's going to feel this for a while! No amount of steam, massage, or rest makes a difference after a certain age working this hard! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :lulz1:
I am older than Rafa.I am also going to feel it for awhile mentally,.also I go up and down our hall way swearing :)

Nadal wins just six sets to go and he moves ahead of Roger and Novak.

I'm still recovering from 2012! I was up all day and never got a quick nap before the match started 2/3 AM! I was up until 9 AM the next day not missing a point! It could have ended appropriately in the 4th, but as usual Novak allowed Rafa to break, then win the TB necessitating a 5th set that went back and forth! The tension was unbearable! The counter-balance match of course was the "wipe-out" Nadal suffered to Djokovic in 2019! That barely took an hour-hour 1/2! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :astonished-face::popcorn

Bummer for Shapovalov, I hope this motivates him to work harder. He’s a former Wimbledon Junior Champ maybe he will find some fire there.

Pathetic scheduling by Channel 9. Because of the australian players in the doubles and only one channel was doing the tennis today, we missed out the bulk of the Nadal-Shapovalov quarterfinal as Nine crossed to the doubles when the match started. Someone has some explaining to do.

Didn't Djokovic also have a stomach injury this time last year in a quarterfinal. Might've been against Zverev? He was able to win the match - and the championship.
Might be an omen but i reckon Nadal will do the same.
