Margaret, doesn't matter who reaches the final, i reckon the mens final, that the law of averages, will be over in straight sets. Because how many times we've seen in GS tournament full of long epic matches, only to have a short, anti-climatic final? One good example was 1991 U S Open and Edberg's thrashing of Jim Courier.
True, though Shapo came over as a spoilt brat,I wonder if he had won the 1st set would he have carried on? I think not.

Amazing battle and win. Even more satisfying because Shapovalov behaved like a jerk both in the match and press conference. I hope he never wins a slam, meanwhile Canadian FAA is a class act.

I certainly think Denis could have handled the situation better. However, he isn’t lodging any new complaint that we haven’t already heard concerning Nadal and his serving. My hope is his coach Delgado teaches him to move past such trivial things and focus on the matter at hand. If he had focused and played how he played in set 3 and 4 instead of taking 2 sets to find his game such things might not matter to him.

See, I get irritated when a losing player blames other factors other than himself/herself. In this case, Shapo is saying that Nadal gets perennial treatment. Then, after the first set, he was telling Carlos Bernades that all umpires are corrupt.

Shapo, you had a chance to beat a low-energy Nadal in the 5th set AFTER winning sets 3 and 4. There's only one person who you should blame and that's yourself!

It is similar to Fritz from last year. He was saying that Djokovic was exaggerating his injury. Well, make him work for it, make him suffer, and not just complain later on that he was exaggerating an injury!

To Tay's credit Djoke does play possum a lot, so it's difficult to ascertain just when he really is injured. But all of that aside, these players that complain afterwards are mentally weak. When the rubber meets the road, they had a top player on the ropes and didn't put them away. If they can't grab the advantage when their opponent is compromised, what hope is there for them to do it ever?

Djokovic DOES play possum a lot, and he DID win that tournament, so how badly was he really injured?

Anyway, I totally agree with the rest that you say: get out of your own way, and don't expend mentally energy on complaining. If you can't take advantage of your opportunities, don't blame the ump or the system.

Serena called Carlos Ramos a "thief" in the USO final and got pilloried for it, (and likely fined.) Shapo just called Carlos Bernardes "corrupt," twice, and he should see some sanction for that, or, once again, things aren't fair.

If he does see some sanction it'll only happen because TTC and other media outlets make a stink about it. Giving someone a fine after the fact doesn't alter the result of the match any. Serena received a warning and/or point penalty during the match and then fines afterwards. So there will still be an issue of fairness even if they decide to do something later.

Exactly. Which is why I shout it out here. Someone on TTC said he could have been defaulted for that. Angry women don't get treated the same as angry men. Especially angry Black women, let's face it. Paying a fine after is not the same as getting sanctioned on the court. I appreciate Tennis Channel for calling out that inequality of treatment.

I don't always get to see the TTC pre-game show. I didn't know they mentioned it, but I'm glad they did. This double standard thing has been going on for awhile. Look at the Peng Shuai business. China should not be allowed to hold the Olympic games.

I have to give a 'shout out' to Don Fabio who correctly said Rafa in five sets
Don please next time dont be soo brutal...as a Rafa fan I have had enough suffering okay....thanks in advance
Thnx Margaret. That is one thing I guessed correct this AO, not much else with the whole draw :)
I just joined the vessel again so very busy for the past few days. Will try to enjoy semis and final over a radio and here on TF.

So Rafa in semis, just like that and with good possibility to reach a final. Then anything can happen. He could even get more tired player than himself like Medvedev who will not have it easy against the greek, that is two grueling matches in a row. Perhaps the AO curse could be fixed, who knows. But one step at the time, next Berrettini.
