I was a fan "way back when!" Federer had the style of play I liked which was effortless unlike the hard work put forth by Novak and Rafa!
I have to admit he was effortless in his play....I have his autograph, though I was nearly crushed in getting it lol!

I'm still never going to understand why working hard at playing a sport is a negative.

You don't need to understand because you are absolutely right that it's not a negative.

Clueless Federer fans like @Fiero425 are just butthurt:

Nadal vs Denis Shapovalov Quarterfinal is available now in full.

I certainly will be looking forward to download and watch this tomorrow sometime.

Channel Nine here, who has a monopoly on australian open TV rights here, they totally messed up when showing it LIVE by alternating the coverage with a men's doubles game.
The network divided their coverage with two offshoot channels in the first week but by the time the quarterfinals , in the second week was underway, coverage had been reduced to one main channel, with Nine choosing to show the bulk of the Thanasi Kokkinakis, Nick KYRIGOS doubles, which to me was wrong, certainly disappointing decision as i would have thought the singles would have the priority.

has Denis retracted his "corrupt" comment since this match? He would be wise to do so.

The incident comes up at the 41 minute point of the above match.

You know the best part about these youtube australian open videos, is they not the same as channel nine's, ridiculously over-hype, overproduced.
For a start , the commentary is different with John Fitzgerald, Mark Petchy and Brad Stine. Even has the change of ends uninterrupted where always Nine would cut to adverts.

Yeah that’s right. I’m just watching the last few games again and the coverage is great. I’m still tense though, watching it. It almost seems like there’s a chance he might lose! :fearful-face:

Noting beats when Nadal was serving at 3-2, 4-3, 5-4 and 6-5 in the 5ht set...that was the longest games ever!
When he held serve at 4-3, I think Medvedev struggled to hold the next game? It all became a little too tense at that stage. Watching it now, I feel great sympathy and admiration for Daniil. He looks traumatised. He fought very hard at the end, exhausted, but I think he was just in awe of how Rafa dug this out. I don’t think Daniil knows what them depths are like. Novak knows, and Roger. Great players go so deep to win, and Daniil came up short. Huge disappointment for him, but I hope he learns something from this. Funny thing is, sometimes you need to win a match like this, in order to learn how to win them. He wasn’t far off it. Had he been able to hold at 5-5, who knows what that tiebreak might look like, if they even got that far?

Medvedev was punished for saying during the 2021 USO ceremony that Djokovic is the GOAT. Maybe now he will not disrespect Nadal again! :finger:
