I do wonder on how other players will view him now that he admitted his stance on his COVID vaccination. Also, I am hoping that when Djokovic steps on the court that other players will have this mindset that I can beat this guy because Djokovic will not play a lot of tournaments.

Have you noticed that Novak NEVER mentions that he is concerned about infecting others but ONLY what goes into his body. Nothing about his wife, kids, parents or older loved ones.
They’re vaccinated, presumably…

Will governments give him a last minute exemption in order to attend the finals and present the trophy to Nadal? :popcorn

Where is Ryan Harrison and Donald Young?? Are they retired??
If they are still playing, I'd check the challenger circuit! Their games aren't big enough to compete any time after their prime! Steve Johnson's one of the rare players who has survived this new wave of players w/ a fairly ordinary game stuck in the past! Saw a little of his match yesterday in Delray Beach! :astonished-face: :angry-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Donald Young Jr really have made some on the court poor decisions. Stay with Mom and Daddy too long to manage his career, once turned down an opportunity to go train with Rafa who had just become the #2 player in the world. I think his biggest issues on the court was his movement and not being able to recognize the moment. I never thought that much of Ryan Harrison. His game really wasnt something that an opponent had to have an advance strategy for.

I thought I read somewhere that his wife was a nonvacca too, hmmn. Maybe Miss Margaret knows.
So that’s okay, with this vaccine. They’re young, fit, they have good enough immune systems for shrugging covid off…

Odds now are that Federer and Djokovic will forever remain tied at 20 like Evert and Navratilova were at 18. Meanwhile Nadal will have the slam record, anywhere between 21-25 slams.

I think Tossip was teasing since they had just played a Challenger match against each other, I know they are both ranked in the 400's /500's so they have a tough row to hoe to get back to even 250 ATP tourneys.

Seems like an eternity ago, but there was so much buzz on Donald as a Junior, I recall Johnny Mac was impressed at his touch with a racket when he saw him at age 10. He was the youngest junior #1 at age 16 and won Wimbledon Jr., and the PTB were gaga over the guy.

"Entitlement" is the word I always associate with DY. He got early in his career so many wildcards, something like 12 or 13 wild-card entries into different U.S. Open draws by the age of 21 that it seemed to me he thought it was his birthright. The twitter where he slammed the USTA because he didn't get a WC into the FO stands out to me.

In hindsight, Donald Young was a young player with nice touch, but I wonder how far would he have actually been able to progress even without his parents as coaches. I remember seeing him at the SAP Open IIRC when he just turned pro, and physically he looked so overmatched. At 6' he was never going impose himself over others and maybe he just never was cut out to be a top player.

It's bigger than Nads will likely push his slam numbers up because Djoke is not there. His ranking will slide when he's not there to defend those 7200 (Aus, RG, Wim and US finalist) points from last year.
Good point about the rankings slip potential. As it stands, as has been said upwards in this thread, that MC, and most of clay, including RG is still in the balance, if he remains unvaccinated. Wimbledon, for now, looks like he can play. IW and Miami are very much in question, but the USO is too far off to say.

All who played the AO, yes, including those who were stated or implied to be "disinclined." (See below re: Adria Tour.) Tsitsipas had stated disinclination, I believe, but he did it.

I know we discussed on here immediately after the Adria Tour, how they blatantly ignored whatever protocols were being done in the limited number of exhibitions previous, at that time. I was of the opinion, and I still am, that they made strong choices against the protocols, because they (at least Novak,) had already told the USO that he was against their strict protocols for putting on the then-coming USO. I think Zverev was a fellow traveler on this, probably Dimitrov and Thiem, as Thiem and Zverev were still playing fast and loose with protocols after Adria. I know you didn't agree with me, Margaret, because you are kinder and less cynical than I am. But given what we know now, I have to think that Adria was staged as it was to prove the lack of necessity for strict protocols, and it back-fired on them. But Novak is stubborn, and he's standing his ground, to whatever extent, even though he wafts and waves over being firm in his beliefs, and just trying to get around things because he's rich and powerful.

Well-spotted that they just played a challenger against each other. Wow, how some do fall short of potential! I was thinking of Tomic in there, too.I don't remember any of these even being especially felled by injury. It was just failure to fulfill promise? Anyway, appreciating your analysis, Jelena.

Moxie,

I have to agree with you now, as I did stick up for Novak at the time of the Arida Tour and thought he was doing it in all good faith,
Novak was just standing his ground, with really no protocols put in place at all, dancing in nightclubs shirtless in a crowded building?
It was like sticking their thumbs up at the pandemic..

" I did stick up for Novak at the time of the Arida Tour and thought he was doing it in all good faith," Miss Margaret confessing to believe that there was once good intentions by Novak may prevent you from being eligible to the Rafa's side of Heaven. SMH2 jajajaj
