Reason for Thiem missing Cincinnati is a respiratory infection, but he said he still plans to play Winston-Salem and the USO
I meant to post this last week but forgot. I can see the reason why the Big 3 + 1 are playing at LC this year. Expect 1 or 2 of them to retire before it is held again in September 23. Add to that it will be in the states next year.Tean World for Laver Cup is....there are 2 more places to fill,
FAA, Fritz, Schwartzman, Sock.
Hi Carol yes good news, go to Rafa fan page there are a few different posts about Rafa going to CinncyThe best news, Rafa tomorrow is going to Cincinnati because he will play there, it seems he is feeling well!
Oops I haven't seen that page. I'm so glad that he has decided to play in Cincy, he needs to play some matches before the USOHi Carol yes good news, go to Rafa fan page there are a few different posts about Rafa going to Cinncy
No worries, yes he does need matches before the USO, so hopefully he can do wellOops I haven't seen that page. I'm so glad that he has decided to play in Cincy, he needs to play some matches before the USO
It's a rather sad fact of the men's game that, if Nadal is healthy enough, and if Djokovic gets the green light due to vaccination status, that, at 36 and 35 they are still the best bet to win a Major. For the time being, the rest are a bunch of Manila Folders. That won't last forever, but we've been saying that for some 5 years now. From where I sit, the other guys are really just waiting for them to retire. They would have to want clarity and calm. Presently most of his fans don't want either of those things, instead they just want to whine incessantly because of the choice he made and blame governments for not easing up on restrictions.
Let's face the facts: if Nads shows up in NY or Aus ready to play, he's likely to hold the hw on the last day. There's just not many players in the field better than him in BO5. I'm sure the lot of them are dreading the next 2 slams waiting to see if the Bull is healthy enough to play.
I guess we have been spoilt with the likes of Federer, Rafa and Novak, agree with your thoughts some players are waiting for Novak and Rafa to retire,It's a rather sad fact of the men's game that, if Nadal is healthy enough, and if Djokovic gets the green light due to vaccination status, that, at 36 and 35 they are still the best bet to win a Major. Right. If you can't beat them, just wait your turn but Father Time shows favor to no one. The problem w/ that logic is by the time these guys hang it up, there are younger credible threats and your window closes. Look at Stefanos and Zed. They are going to have a hard road to go before they reach another Final. There are just too many young obstacles in front of them (Carlito, Jannik, Ruud, Rune, Fritz, etc.)It's a rather sad fact of the men's game that, if Nadal is healthy enough, and if Djokovic gets the green light due to vaccination status, that, at 36 and 35 they are still the best bet to win a Major. Totally agreed. There is an entire generation that will never win a major waiting for those guys to retire: Dimitrov, Nishikori, (remember Raonic?) etc....we thought those guys had more than one Major in them. Zverev is definitely in danger of joining them. The windows close for everyone except the Big 3. (Now maybe 2.) I honestly think the youngsters you mention might just pass not only the Lost Gen, but the Next Gen. Eventually someone is going to be right when they say, "I have a feeling that Rafa won't win RG this year," or likewise that feeling about Novak and the next one he plays. But it's becoming the prediction of a stopped clock...it will be right, eventually.Right. If you can't beat them, just wait your turn but Father Time shows favor to no one. Well here is a good example Medvedev, Alcaraz and now The Young Greek have all bowed out in Montreal in their first round matches?Totally agreed. Alcaraz is 19, Meddie played Kyrgios. Tsitsipas...Draper? Really? Upsets happen, but Stephanos is not demonstrating that he is a guy who will leap to an opportunity.Well here is a good example Medvedev, Alcaraz and now The Young Greek have all bowed out in Montreal in their first round matches?
Maybe we should give them a pass, still Meddy won a HC tournament, Alcaraz and The Young Greek playing their first HC match of the HC season
I understand Alcaraz is 19 going on his results of late he should have won the match, Meddie and Nick K both coming off wins on a HC, though I really thought Meddy would win, I understand upsets happen? well I have been out on The Young Greek after he lost the RG final, mentally he is weak.Alcaraz is 19, Meddie played Kyrgios. Poor Muzz. Honestly he wouldn't mind being born in 87 if he could just have normal hips. He would trade almost anything for supreme physical health.I will make this one comment only for this thread: Andy Murray looking/thinking at the state of tennis right now: “Damn, I wish I was born in 1997 instead of 1987 right about now!”
