I take posters points with Serena should play more tournaments, also I felt she should have played a 'warm up' grass match prior to Wimbledon.
The grass is slippery that is why she injured herself,Roger and Andy said the same thing, especially when the roof is closed
Serena's opponent Aliaksandra also said she was felt unsafe on the grass in her match
Why cant players wear a different type of sole on their shoe, which they used to allow at Wimbledon many years ago, that would grasp the underfoot better and we would not see the players, slip.slide and fall over.,like Serena and Mannarino have to retire in their matches due to injury.
I don't know if Serena was more than 85% healthy at the beginning of the match.

I'd like to lodge a minor complaint, and I hope ol' you-know-who doesn't show up with his hair on fire because of it, but: at Wimbledon, they always talk about the honor of playing first on Centre Court. The first day is the defending Men's champion, and on the 2nd day, it's the defending Women's champion. Why always the men first? Particularly because they speak of it as an "honor." So why secondary honor to the women? They could at least alternate. Just wanted to mention.

Well explain to me about Mannarino then and also one of my Aussie youngster fell Marc Polmans and clutched his knee and had to call for a trainer.........I beg to differ
The grass is just plain dangerous and another match was postponed due to the grass being too slippery
I rest my case.I have never seen it soo slippery and dangerous
BTW it was Serena's right leg that was injured, not her left ankle which the commentators said when she went off court for a MTO.

Grass is for Bloody Cows.....a mens match just suspended due to the slippery grass.
Quite frankly I have never seen soo many players slip and slide on grass, and fall over like Wimbledon this year.I have never been a fan of grass and now I can say I Hate It.

Wimbledon has always been like this. In the first week, there will be lots of falls and one needs to tread gingerly. The degree varies from year to year. But, definitely this is not the worst year with respect to falls. I do remember distinctly few years which were worse than this. You are just suffering from "recency bias".

The commies on my TV asked what if it had been both Serena and Roger to go out today...would we be having a different conversation. I think so. I get why a roof is useful, but I think they are realizing that it causes its own problems. Question: was the roof open or closed when Serena slipped?

I also realize the grass is especially slippery in the first days, and there has been rain. But two consequential matches were decided today at least very much in part due to injury, on the slick grass today. They're going to have to look at that.

Question: was the roof open or closed when Serena slipped

Actually it does not matter whether the roof was open or closed at the particular time that Serena was playing. What they are saying is that because of the rain they had the roof close for long periods and thus allowed excess moisture to stay on grass.

The roof was closed for Serena's match. There was also a match they had to cancel because of the grass being too slippery, one of my young Aussies had the trainer out he slipped over and was clutching his knee.
It is the worst I have seen it,I know the grass is slippery in the first week but not like this.I have been watching Wimbledon for over 40 years btw.My husband has been to Wimbledon in Pete Sampras days and he also said to me he could not believe how sliippery the grass is,he watched Roger's match and also Serena's match.

That link didn't work for me, but it's an interesting point, though I'd still like to know. With grass and moisture, the roof seems to be creating a kind of terrarium effect. What next...a plague of frogs? GSM, you suggested a bad omen with the early rain...could be you're not far off.

Moxie,

The 2 other matches were played on outside courts,of course playing with the roof on does cause more moisture, still having 2 serious injuries, with both players retiring,is not a good enough excuse full stop.
