Just watched Tsitsipas give away the 1st set to Sascha in Acapulco! OMG, he was up 4-1 with a BP for 5-1 and preceeded to allow Zverev 5 straight games to drop that 1st set 4-6! WTF? Isn't that supposed to happen the other way around? No wonder these guys will take even more time to overcome the excellence of the "Big 3!" We continue to bury them, but Daniil is the 1st one to break inside the "Big 4's,'" top 2 since Hewitt IIRC!

OMG that was the match from hell....Sasha should not have won the 1st setThe Young Greek was up 4-1 and then had a mental walkabout, let Sasha back in the first set,Sasha won 6-4.Sasha had MP hit a d/fault 8DF and counting that never made the top of the net....then The Young Greek broke, then saved 6 BPs to hold for 6-5 in the 2nd set.....t/break time Sasha wins 64 76(3)......I need a strong drink after watching that match:)
Sasha is the 2021 Acapulco champion,14th career title.
Sasha will stay at No7 in the rankings (he will probably whinge about that fact again)

I was so disgruntled after that match. Tsitsipas got really passive and Zverev wasn't a lot better. Lots of boring occasionally broken up by a good shot.

KS or Moxie ..I think there should be a thread for the current tennis "Villains"..there are so many Nick Kyrgios, F3, Beni Pierre, Daniil Medvedev, Novak has got to make that list.Any thoughts
You still didn't make this thread, @the AntiPusher. But Benoit Paire is making himself the poster child for crybabies in tennis. https://www.skysports.com/tennis/ne...fter-having-to-play-matches-in-empty-stadiums

"I know you are going to say you don't realize how lucky you are... but playing in closed stadiums without any atmosphere [isn't] why I play. Having to stay at a hotel or club and be forbidden to go out without risking a fine, where is the pleasure of travelling?"

Ahem, I think, yes, we feel that you don't realize how luck you are. While the rest of us don't travel at all, or even hardly make any money, in this pandemic.

And, on top of it, now he's complaining about "low prize money." He says if Novak, Rafa, Roger, Gael and Stan back out of Miami, there is a problem with tennis. That he even mentions himself in their company seems arrogant in the extreme. He should take his pop-collar and Mast Brothers beard and stay home, then, and save us all from his horrible attitude. For "Villain in Tennis," he's my top pick.

Seems odd to mention Gael Monfils as being someone important in tennis.

Rather than complain why not try and win some matches and points with the severely depleted Miami field if he wants proper prize money. He's been boasting a la Tomic on how he gets paid loads for losing in the first round. Maybe try and make some proper money or maybe he's content to keep doing that. Honestly I wouldn't blame him for not giving a damn and losing in the first round for how much they get paid now for this.

"I lost in the first round, it's better, I will be able to get out of the bubble fairly quickly and enjoy a few days before Miami," Paire told L'Equipe after.

Paire has lost in his first match of all but two singles tournaments he has played in since the ATP Tour resumed in August following a five-month hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I arrive, I take some money and I go to the next tournament: I do my job," he said. "If you win an ATP 250, you only pocket $30,000. Me, with bye [in the first round], I took 10,000 each time losing straight. Why tear yourself away like crazy to earn barely more?"

I disagree. He's French, so he mentioned Gael, but Monfils has tried much harder than Paire ever has to at least give a good show to the folks. And he was so distraught at losing recently that he wept. I can't see Paire ever giving that much of a good god damn.

I suppose Paire can manage his career any way he wants to, but interesting comparison with Tomic. If you can get away with as little effort as possible and still make the money, good for you, I guess. But don't expect anyone to cheer for you. Plus, won't the points eventually do him in, and he'll have to be relegating to qualifying or playing lesser money tournaments? Paire is complaining about the money, and actually saying out loud that he's willing to put in the least effort possible to take it.

Yup makes no sense to complain about money and then boast you're happy to lose and get paid 10 grand. Who wouldn't be regarding the latter really except the top guys. He needs to grow a pair(e). Re Monfils, yes he's tried harder at times but he's been pathetic in more matches than I remember him being good. I'll never forget when he came back from 2 sets down at RG against Murray and they weren't taxing sets that he won either and then it looked for all the world like he just gave up and tried to lose blasting balls about 20 feet wide and into the net and lost set 5 by 6-0 in about 10 minutes. Clown with a capital C in my book 'cos there's so much wasted talent there. I like watching him play when he's going for winners but not the rubbish pushing he chooses 90% of the time. Likewise his serve. He can serve bombs but chooses to serve weak serves like Bambi all too often. Truly baffling. The same applies to Paire. Definitely talented too and wasted potential. He used to actually try before covid came along in his defense and beat some good players.

Personally, I think Monfils is a changed player and is applying himself to his late career. And I don't think Paire just became a slacker in COVID. He's not as talented as Monfils, and he's far more volatile. At least Monfils enjoys his game, and makes sure others do, as well.

This is such wishful thinking of these vets! This isn't like the old days when you could keep coming back from multiple injuries and surgeries! The game is moving too fast! They'll end up having to go back under the knife within the year! Look at Del Po's quest to remain relevant! Anyone else outside of Haas might have packed it in for good years ago! Playing for the fun of the game was a lame statement going back to Connors who embarrassed himself by just "hanging on" for no other reason but to absorb applause even in losing efforts!

I think Stan even mentioned earlier this year retirement for him is not that far away.I really feel Del Potro who has just undergone his 4th knee surgery has to seriously think of retirement,I know he wants to play the Olympics and retire,he now has to have rehab on his knee,we shall see if he can make the Olympics.

I've a feeling Del Potro will be bitterly disappointed 'cos I don't see any Olympics going ahead personally this year.
