Murray is one match into a comeback. You know what's sad, old man? It's you, grumping endlessly from your Barcalounger, remembering, and not quite accurately, the old days. Why don't you give Murray a chance before you declare this "embarrassing?" What's embarrassing about it? He's working on a comeback. Are we all so small and punitive that we can't give a man a chance to rehabilitate?
Well, to be fair he won 4 matches at the Biella challenger event just before this ATP level match he lost yesterday. But he was barely beating low ranked players in the challenger matches he won (besides the semi final where he won a bagel first set) and lost the final to Ilya Marchenko (world number 176) who won 6-2 6-4. I've never been a Murray fan but wouldn't wish career ending injuries on anyone and hope he improves but I can't see him returning to a level high enough to challenge the top players personally.

Dominic Theim has been nominated for Laureus Breakthrough Award Of The Year in 2021.
That's almost a bit sad...just because someone else finally won a Major? I see Swiatek is as well. She should get it over Dommie.

Yes both have been nominated still Swiatek did not lose a set at RG which I feel is much stronger than Theim's 1st major.
Yes I am fully aware that the men's game is different to the women's still I thought Swiatek's performance was outstanding for a teenager.

It just seems to fall more into the category of "breakthrough" than Thiem's. I mean, he's been top 5 for nearly 2 full years. She's a teenager and blasted through the field to win her first Major.

Was sad to hear this news but sitting out of Rotterdam is obviously the best decision for him. Fair play to Medvedev. Hard work pays off

Bs, two different sports can’t be compared. Put her on the same court and see if she can do the same.

‘The field’ is not the same field, so the value of achievement is not the same. Why is wta promotion necessary here? Look at the empty seats at AO wta matches...

Ricardo, there are so many things wrong with these posts that it's hard to know where to begin. You understand what the Laureus Awards are, right? They nominate men and women from all sports in the same categories. You may not agree with the basic premise, but that's how they do it. At least we're comparing tennis to tennis. It's nothing to do with how women would do playing men, it's how they play against their own field. The fact that Swiatek made a much more breathtaking and comprehensive breakthrough this year is rather hard to dispute, in my personal opinion.

For the record, there were 5 days of empty seats at the AO for men's and women's tennis. In any case, the awards are not a popularity contest. I'm sorry that your own masculine insecurity forces you to freak out every time men's and women's tennis are mentioned in the same breath. It's not really about that with the Laureus Awards. You can see the nominees here.

Gilles Simon says he is taking a break from tennis to preserve himself mentally because 'my hears is no longer there to travel and play in these conditions'.

I don't mean to be snarky or rude, but who really cares? I never minded his tennis, but he was just an early round obstacle with no real weapon; a "lesser Goffin" if you will! There are his type that I used to see all the time during clay season, but they were lit'l more than "eye candy" like a Simon or Gulbis!

Simon is 36 years old I believe,I have seen him playing live,we used to call him 'chicken legs' lol!...agree he had no real weapon,he is a pure defensive player, frustrating to play against, given his age,it would not surprise me if he retires.given this pandemic is still going to prove obstacles for tennis players this year, some tournaments will have to cancel if they cannot have the proper protocols of COVID in place, some tournaments will have no fans, meaning prize money will be reduced.,also some players do not want to have to go into 'a bubble' before playing a tournament.
