Quite frankly the 2 womens s/finals were far better contests than either of the mens s/finals today

Hoping for a better contest for the men's final.

Especially the 2nd men's semi. It was really disappointing because of the hype too

But I don’t think it was a bad match. It went to 2 tiebreaks. If either of them had gone to Medvedev the match would still be going. Thiem just rose to the occasion with more definitive offense at key moments than Medvedev did.

I agree. Not a bad match, just didn't live up to all the hype that surrounded it. I made popcorn for goodness sake!

I don't see how Ziraffe can win this. Maybe if Domi isn't 100% because of his ankle he would have a chance.

For sure. It's already a lot for Med to live up to defending his position in last year's final. Add Djoke going out and then it becomes more pressure because of the expectation.
I think the pressure of Djokovic going out should have worn off. Medvedev was never convincing at all tonight. I like his mix of big serve, defensive baseline and then pepper it in with aggression, and trickiness. But he really did none of those things effectively tonight, including the serve. Nothing to take away from Thiem, who cleaned up his game good shape. But Medvedev had previously played an impressive tournament, and he played an impressive one last year. There was no reason, including Thiem's game, to be so flaccid tonight. This is why I don't get how so many bandwagoning Meddie for #1, with Thiem standing on the precipice...at least of #2.

Sounds like someone is missing Djokovic!
If anyone is missing Djokovic, it's the men's game. The women's USO has been by far the more dramatic and interesting, with the exception of the "Incident," and Coric v. Shapo. The rest of the field didn't do a great job of stepping up to the plate on the men's side, when Novak went out. They are mostly wobbling to a finish.

I think the womens us open has been mostly boring and mens side have been way better, anyway thats just me both mens semi finals for me was really good at to watch high level tennis one going 5 sets. but djokovic going out realy hurt the event for sure.

For sure that's subjective, but I would argue you haven't been watching enough of the women's matches. For sure in week 2, I think the women's matches have been far more dramatic and compelling. There have been a lot of damp squibs on the men's side, including both tonight, and those were SFs.

a have watched a lot of womens tennis in week 2, but not the first week so your right about that, Im big fan of Azarenka so shes been the highlight of me for sure, a lot of matches are way too short and lack the level of tennis the mens side always does. but yes it is subjective for anyone, N.osaka is a big turn off for me putting off court tennis stuff in peoples faces not good at all shes a brat. I disagree about the semi finals I think they was both really good matches but anyway their both been good overall in my opinion.

If you can’t see the difference in level, don’t watch men’s tennis. You’d save a bit of money as well!

I think the final two men are who I thought it would be. It was such a good opportunity for many with Djokovic going out. However, aside from Medvedev going out in a less than spectacular fashion to Thiem, the players I expected to be there on both sides are after Djokovic’s exit.

I hope Thiem is rewarded with a slam for his steady improvement. He has gotten so much better at conserving his energy at the big events. I remember when he used to go far in one tournament and flame out the following tournament. If he should win this, he will make for an interesting conversation.

She's not a "brat," she's an activist. If you don't like it, ignore it.
