Mini-opinion poll: Who suffers more damage if they lose this match, based on where we are? Zverev, because he had a 2 sets lead? Or, Thiem because he was favored and didn't have Djokovic or Nadal in front of him?

Sasha he had a break in the 3rd set and let Theim back in.

Dominic Thiem leads the H2H match up 7-2 over Zverev winning the last 3 meetings including their last encounter at a Slam in this year's Australian Open semifinal round (feels like a long time ago, isn't?). In addition, Thiem leads 3-0 in Slam meetings over Zverev (2-0 at RG, and 1-0 at AO).

This will be Zverev's first ever Slam final, so kudos to him for making his opportunities.

As for Thiem, this will be his 4th Slam final in his career at three different slams (2x at RG and 1 at AO). If he does lose this match, he will join Ivan Lendl and Andy Murray as the only male players in the Open Era to lose their first four slam final appearances. There is a lot of stakes for Thiem in this match.

Anyways, Dominic Thiem in four sets to win his first slam ever and first US Open title.

By the way, whomever wins this match will more than likely will skip the Italian Open so he can rest for Roland Garros.

I'm thinking they both will skip the Italian.

great tactic. should be used more than the momentum killing MTO or toilet break
P-Mac was saying earlier, basically, "Fake it 'til you make it," in terms of confidence. I think it was smart.

Zverev, right, after being in the winning position? He was six points away from the match at 4-4 in the third set.

P-Mac putting the whammy on Zverev for losing the plot on 2nd serve.

It's Domi all day long. Losing this final to someone he owns in the H2H would be a disaster for his psyche. This is Ziraffe's first final. If he completes the collapse, going forward he'll learn from it.

I'm not sure. I think he came out all "Bill&Ted" chill because he wasn't expected to win. Thiem would come away with a huge monkey on his back.

OK, you’ve convinced me.

I'm trying to find my rubber-meets-the-road deep down who I want to win this match. I was about 52% Thiem before it started, and am about 52% Zverev now.

Ken Doll hasn’t mentioned it, and he lets no thought go unexpressed.
I usually let him wash over me like so much "white(boy)-noise," but he's beginning to irritate me, too. Good hold from Alex.
