China will not stage any international sports for the rest of the year,(apart for the trials of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and the neighboring city of Zhangjiakou.)
China also have four ATP tournaments lined up which are cancelled.
Chengdu 250
Zhuhai 250
Beijing 500
Shanghai 1000

It certainly opens up the fall season post French Open (if there is one)

Yes,I am not surprised that China has cancelled, there have been outbreaks of COVID-19 in some cities, including Beijing,6 WTA tournaments are also cancelled, including the finals at Shenzhen in November.

Just an update from Christopher Clarey per Twitter,

It is not clear that China will call off all international sports events for the rest of 2020,despite AP report earlier, the decision not yet definitive.

Funny, I took your post both ways: If there IS a French Open, and also: if there IS a fall season. I see Margaret's latest above that China hasn't definitively canceled everything. But let's say they do. It seems the best thing would be to try to concentrate tournaments (such as there may be) in one geographic area to cut down on the travel. If we pretend that the fall clay events go off without problems, and Europe is still doing reasonably well in terms of low virus case numbers, the ATP could try to keep the tour confined to Europe for the rest of the season. (I'm not favoring Europe, I'm using it as a for-instance.)There's Paris/Bercy. Presumably Rotterdam can still hold a HC event. I won't go down the list of the options, but even if you keep going with clay after RG, for some smaller events (as with the summer clay season in normal years,) and use places that don't have tournaments anymore, like Valencia, you might be able to run enough of a tour to salvage the year for the less-financially solvent players who really need to work. I'm sure Larry Ellison would like to squeeze Indian Wells back into the mix, but I'm not sure how practical it is dragging players back to US.

Just spit-balling some ideas.

Wimbledon has decided that the grass court seeding formula used since 2002 has served its time, and from The Championships 2021 seeding from the Gentleman's singles draw will be based solely on ranking. There will be no change to the method of seeding for the Ladies Singles draw.

That will hurt Federer because if he decides not to play the Clay season next season, he might not able to be in the Top 4 seed. On the other hand, it will benefit a player like Thiem because he does not have to worry about falling out of the Top 4 seed due to playing very well in the Clay season.

Quite frankly I think it is about time and is fair for all players.

This should make it official..Rafa is going to skip the US Open and his title defense.. Rafa is back to
practicing on the clay.

Well, that's not really a surprise, and for the best, I think. Curious as to what Djokovic will do. He'd be the big favorite if he plays it. But it would lower his chances at RG. Hmmm....

It looks like Djokovic will try to play both the US Open and Roland Garros. There are no confirmations from his camps, but it looks like he will try to compete for both slams.

In the same link, Thiem will also try to compete in both US Open and Roland Garros.

Both players,Novak and Theim have highly critized the protocols of the USO,though at the end of the day it is a GS and a chance to win, even though for me it will not be a even playing field this year..Rafa has said months ago he was not certain playing in the USO because of the coronavirus there,I have seen him practice on clay two weeks ago, also his confirmation playing Madrid,I will be surprised if he plays in the USO.

It's seems like Rafa is playing poker with Novak and ATP... Heck only Thiem has displayed his hand in regards to playing in the USO. Thiem's chances are the best at this point.

Novak should be banned from both slams due to him being irresponsible and a danger to society.

It doesn’t work like that, he will still need to practice social distancing as there is no conclusive evidence that one cannot contract and transmit the virus again... Knowing Novak he will act again like a fool and not respect social distancing and put others in danger.

As far as I am concerned Theim should have self isolated when the Arida Tour was cancelled, regardless if he tested negative,we have a rule in Sydney, people Must Self Isolate if they have been close to a carrier of this virus for 14 days and then get another test, sometimes people have to have 2 tests to determind the correct result.which can prove positive,he thinks he is healthy so he will not get this virus, which is Not Correct,he just wants to play every tournament on earth.I will be interested to see if he and Novak comply with the strict protocols at the USO.
BTW there is no evidence to date if you get coronavirus you are immuned to it,so people can contract it again.
