I dont mean to be a 'Debbie Downer' lets just take a big breath regarding Gauff, how many times over the years have the Media said the same on many players? I will just sit back and watch her career, she is just 15 and defeating a 39 year old Venus who was not at her best, to me does not make her the Future of Tennis.
Yeah, they did the same to that girl that made it to the QF of the USO one year with her unique shoes. It's been so long since she made her splash that I've forgotten her name now. But she didn't do anything after that. In fact, I don't even think she's playing anymore.

Do you mean Melanie Oudin?

(WIKI)Oudin went on to win the Mixed Doubles title at the US Open alongside Jack Sock in 2011, and then won her first WTA title at the Aegon Classic in 2012.Melanie Oudin was plagued by series of injuries and a heart arrhythmia that kept her from returning to the level that she once reached. Oudin ultimately made the decision to retire from professional tennis exactly eight years after her historic run on Arthur Ashe in 2009.

And there it is. Huge win for Davis. Kerber falls. Just not at her best this year. And while she has shown signs of life the last week in Eastbourne, she just isn't as match tough this year. And she's always a little more vulnerable because of her game style. Good on Davis though. All credit to her. I didn't get to watch this match sadly. But it looks like it was a good one for stretches.

So Serena drops the first set. Can't buy a first serve. Juvan all in. All over her second serve. Playing well. Definitely looks better than Serena. Serena will need to find another level REAL quick.

She’s up a break in the 2nd, but her movement isn’t great.

Serena’s doing much better in the 2nd. But I think I heard a commentator say she has hit only one ace.

Yeah. Her serve is not where it needs to be. It's been better this second set. But we know, as good as she is in all parts of the game, so much of it is dependent on the serve. Her serve is what sets her apart from everyone else. She needs her best serve. And she has not had it today. But she gets the set. They'll duke it out in the third. Hopefully she can play her best again. Juvan with the match play and confidence of a qualifier here.

So Linette takes down Anisimova. Another RG semifinalist with a let down. But your winner, Barty, and Konta are still in this thing. The younger ladies with the let downs. Which is not surprising. Sort of par for the course. Even if they are now both seeded.

Serena is playing around w/ this girl. All these BP's go begging. It will come back to haunt her later in this set

As for Serena, she's keeping up her solid play. But Juvan is playing well too. Just saved a break point. Got a little lucky when her volley clipped the net. But gets her hold. That's the important part.

Serena finding 2 aces to hold from 30-15. Both close. One right on the T line. The other right in the corner down the T. Doing what she needs to right now to stay in this thing.

I hadn't even realized Bencic and Kanepi had gotten on court. Bencic with the first set.

The first few rounds of a major are so problematic for serious tennis fans. It’s impossible to see, or sometimes even keep track of, everything. But you gotta love ‘em anyway!

Ah! They just put up one of their little Wimbledon facts and Juvan beat Gauff in the final round of qualifying at the French. And that tracks. I was sitting here in the first set thinking this girl is taking confidence from Gauff's win over Venus that she can contend with Serena. Seems like she also knew she had a recent win over Gauff and that gave her confidence as well. Just 18 herself.

But everything falling apart now for her. She's just completely lost it now. Possibly the difference between her and someone like Gauff. Though. We'll see if Gauff goes away at some point as well.

Serena serving for the match.

She's had trouble closing out sets in her last match

Juvan really did look like she was cooked. Like she didn't believe she could keep going. But. She trusts her serve and she just wanted to make Serena serve it out probably. Serena helped her out with some errors. But a strong hold for Juvan. Still. Serena to serve for it again.
