Sampras never had much hair on his head but tons of hair everywhere else like some mountain Greeks around here. Some of us Greeks lose the hair early. Hasn't hit my aging ass yet thank God. My ego wont be able to handle balding or even grey hair.
Sweet Darth, I hate to break it to you. Grey hair is coming. And whether early or late, depending on if you live long enough, and your genes, so is balding. So is losing your eyesight for small print. These are just the irritations. But remember, it's better than dying young and leaving a good looking corpse. :D

Nice read, thanks. But it was in retrospect. Sure, he has to be contented with what he'd done, so many years after he'd quit. I still don't think it was lack of motivation that pushed him out of the game. I think he hated losing. At least Roger has withstood it, to come back and win Majors. Interesting from Pete, though, about resisting racquet change that could have helped him at the French. I do think that if he'd lived in this time, and had Roger/Rafa/Novak to compete against, he'd have stayed longer and made changes.

Thanks for the OOP post @kskate2. Some interesting matches tomorrow. I think (the lovely) Berrettini will send Baggy into retirement tomorrow. Cilic will take care of Sousa. I also think Fritz will take out Struff. Simon will probably get Sandgren. And Tsonga should take out Berankis. And I'd pick Querrey over Rublev. Also probably Kukushkin over Isner. Can Fucsovic take down the Fog? I think no.

Of the tougher ones to call:
Stevie Johnson v. De Minaur...?
Millman v. Djere...I would call Millman?

Oh, right...and the elephant in the room: Nadal v. Kyrgios.

I won't pretend that I'm not stressed about this match. I can't tell you how happy I was that @MargaretMcAleer told us that Nick was out at the pub tonight. Kyrgios needed 5 sets to get out of his first round, and Rafa cleared his in good form. Logic tells me not to be worried. But logic doesn't seem to apply to Nick, and bad-blood doesn't go well for Rafa...he had bad-blood with Soderling before the 2009 RG match. A grudge match doesn't work so well for Rafa's generally cool-headedness. I expect Rafa to be better prepared than he was in 2014. We shall see. Hasta mañana, y ¡Vamos, Rafa!

I accept nothing my dear. But yes, grandpa always said the alternative to growing old is grave. There already is a bit of salt and pepper in the beard, I'm living with it. Baldness will make me go Kyrgios-style crazy though. Hopefully it's another few decades away.

I think Roger should always play on center court. Tennis fans should be given the chance to see the last years of tennis magic, and there is no better place than center court to watch him.

I am checking Fabbiano's record and I am puzzled.
He has a very low win/loss record at ATP level, reflected in his career raking, never been higher than 70.
However, in 3 out of 4 slams he made R3, that is the top 32.
His scalps here in Wimbledon were big, Tsitsipas and Karlovic who has been in the QF before.
It means he can raise his level in slams, but week to week he cannot string to much together.

This is the kind of match Kyrgios lives for... so it'll be interesting for sure, and a rare grudge match in tennis.

Sure, why not. Tournament schedulers are infidels, but I get your point.

It is true that you don't get so many grudge matches. Funny that a couple have involved Nadal, whom I find a fairly decorous person.

I am willing to tolerate Nick's wild ways, to some extent. But I do hope that Rafa smacks him down hard tomorrow, and not just out of fannish-ness. Nick needs someone to slap him upside his head. If he thinks he can keep getting along thumbing his nose at the hand that feeds, I think it will come to bite him in the ass sooner rather than later.

There R plenty of these guys around! The most extreme case being Wawrinka who'll win a major then lose in the 1st Rd. of a 250 event!

Decorous my ass. He is easy to hate, any competitor sees through him and probably hates the stalling tactics. Having a POS self-serving arrogant uncle stirring the pot doesn't help.

He's easy for you to hate, and it's obvious why. The rest you put out there because you want him to be despicable, and his family, too. To those who are without agenda, I think this is unreasonable.

And you don't have an agenda? Having you talk all nice about Ralph is as meaningful as Judy Murray talking about Deliciano :D

I think it's quite obvious that I have less of an agenda than you do. Or, at the very least, I don't spend as much time trash-talking the others as you do Rafa. My "agenda" is counter-pointing all of the nastiness and untruths that you hail down on Nadal. When have I ever "hated" on Roger or Novak? When have I ever used words such as "cunt" or "peasant" or anything like scourge on tennis to describe your favorite tennis player, or anyone else's? Decried that tennis needed to be "saved" from them? You hate Nadal to an extent that very much verges on trolling. If I didn't like you so much, I'd put you on ignore. Yes, I think you have an agenda...an endless, ponderous, pounding litany that Nadal is a terrible person. Why? Because he's beaten your man too much. It's patently obvious. But I won't stop fighting you in your pathetic little digs. That's my "agenda."

The bookies are giving bad boy 25% chance to upset the bull.
The bookies that we've already decided don't know shit from shinola? That's a 1 in 4 chance. What do YOU think?

Kyrgios is a clown, but if he plays well he wins. Against Thompson, he was playing to the gallery, at times even singing between points. He did the underhand serve at 40-15, while serving for the set, and ended up dropping serve. In the 5th, he was sublime and people were wondering why he did not play like that earlier in the match. He could be a comedian professionally, and earn more than he will earn as a tennis player.

And what if Nadal plays well? Honest question.

For the record, I think the chances of an upset, especially with them meeting early, are quite significant, but to so matter-of-factly state "if Nick plays well he wins" is ridiculous when the other guy is clearly the better player. Here's news: If Nadal plays well, he wins. That's how tennis often works anyway.

Anyway, I think Nick will be up for this one and if he serves well, he won't give Nadal any rhythm. Think Rafa who's lacking grass court play might struggle to get his feet into the match early and find himself down as Nick grows in confidence. Not ready to fully predict an upset though as I really have no idea how each guy will play. But I'll reiterate, if Nadal plays well, he wins.

I like Fog but him beating Tiafoe here is not a good sign for playing conditions. Must be slow as shit already.

Serious question, did you even watch a second of the match? I haven't either by the way, but it's sort of rich to come up with that conclusion off such minimal information. But anything to push the usual crap every year. It's green clay, we get it.

No, a better player doesn't necessarily win even if he plays A game, a lesser player with potential actually has a say. There is no question, zero, that Novak is better than Stan. Yet when Stan shows up, usually in big matches, he can play at a level that Novak just cant handle even though we all see that he actually plays well, much above his average. Nick is similarly explosive, perhaps more, and clearly he is wired in a way that he shows up against the best players...…….while often at other time he becomes pathetic when opposition is average. It can't be a coincidence that he is tied with Nadal, and leads Novak and Roger actually got a bit lucky in some matches when it was on Nick's racquet to close those out. I do believe he is confused how he is naturally wired like that, sometimes he is incredible and sometimes he becomes so flat.

With Nick one thing is for sure, you just never know.
